returned to Germany to com-
mand the 11th Armored Caval-
ry Regiment and then served as

June 1981 he became Deputy

become the 33rd commanding
general of the 1st Armored Di-
vision “Old Ironsides.”

speech that the soldiers of Fort
Hood are the best soldiers he
has been with in all of his 33
years in the Army. He said they
