Debaters and Declaimers Club
Under the supervision of Mr. McDonald the debating team of this year was one
of the best that has ever been put out by our High School. Alice Hill and Blanche Horn
were successful in their efforts. They ably presented the affirmative of the "Immigra-
tion" question at the County Contest at Mingus. It was generally conceded that the
Mineral Wells team had better argument and better delivery than the opposing team.
Alice Hill is to be with us another year and it is hoped that she will be in the race for
the debating team next year. Blanche Horn can graduate at Christmas next year, but
she may decide to come back for our debating team. The girls were not so successful
in the District Meet, but received third honors.
Our boys, Everett Grindstaff and Homer Bouldin, presented the negative of the
same question in a very convincirg way at Mingus, but were unable to convince the
judges that they should have the decision. Everett graduated in May, but Homer ex-
pressed his intention of returning next year and making it hard for a fellow who repre-
sents Mineral Wells to beat him for the team.
On the declamation team Robert Yeager and Thelma Carnahan showed unusual
ability and were easy victors at Mingus
Special mention should be given Lee Ella Costella, our speller. She put much time
on her spelling and with the assistance of Mr. Epps, was successful in every contest
that she entered, winning first in the County, first in District, and second in the State
Contest.
PARENT-TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
The record of the Parent-Teachers Association of the Mineral Wells High School
for the year 1921-22 has been one of marked achievement.
The purposes of the Association have been:
"To study, promote and improve conditions affecting child life, to create a better
understanding between parent and teacher, to co-operate in all child welfare work, and
to help the school in every possible way."
With Mrs. C. F. Yeager as president, the purposes of the Association have been
wonderfully accomplished.
At the beginning of the year the Parent-Teachers Association presented the High
School with a beautiful curtain for the auditorium. This curtain cost over three hun-
dred dollars, and they have over seventy dollars in the bank for other needed things.
The enthusiastic work of the Parent-Teachers Association has been much appre-
ciated by High School and their outlook for the coming year is unusually bright.
It is expected that next year the parents of the pupils of High School will be en-
listed 100 per cent strong, that they shall not be satisfied until our school is the best
equipped in the State.
Their splendid efforts will be rewarded by the noble womanhood and manhood of to-
morrow.
