Data from the Texas Agricultural Statistics Service
reveal that prices of most products sold by Texas farmers
and ranchers moved lower between April and June, 1992.
Most agricultural prices were also below year earlier levels.

percent of the 1977 average in April to 162 in June. The

The Texas crop price index declined from 128 in
April to 124 in June, but remained 0.8 percent above the
figure posted in the second quarter of last year. The price
of wheat jumped sharply between 1991 and 1992, while oat
and grain sorghum prices increased at a slower pace. Corn
and cotton prices moved lower over the past year, and the
price of hay remained steady.
The Texas livestock and product price index also
moved lower, from 200 percent of the 1977 average in
April to 193 percent in June. The second quarter index
value is 4.4 percent below the average value for the same
three months of last year. Beef cattle, hog, and mohair
prices moved lower between 1991 and 1992, while values
of sheep, lambs, milk, and wool advanced.Department of Social Sciences
