Both bills were referred to a special com-

A resolution was adapted to empower
County Courts to grant charters and levy
lax for building bridges nnd construct
ing fences which do not cost over five
thousand dollars.
The Texas & Pacific llailroad bill
being tho special order of the day was
taken up and consumed much lime. A
motion to consider in committeo of I lie
whole was rejected iiud an amend-
ment offered by vote that tho loud shall

The House refused lo concur with the
Senate amendments 011 appropriation for
paying school teachers.
Sknate. School law was ordered print-
ed and made special order for Thursday.
Several petitions wero read and a commu-
nication from the Governor nominating a
number of notaries. The hour for consid-
erations of contested seat case of Tracy and
Stewart having arrived. Mr. Stewart
opened his case and the arguments con-
tinued till adjournment.
Both Houses will meet this evening.

1:30 o'clock this afternoon brings stirring

is not a negro to bo found for miles around.

Arrived nt Colfnx Sunday evening about
8 o'clock nnd found that thowhito people

captured the town. After having had a
conflict with tho her roes it was reported
to mo that about KIO negroes had been
killed and ninny others wounded. Vie
saw from tho bo.it about eighteen or twen

was reported killed and two very severely
wounded Messrs. Ilodnot end Harris-
Mr. Ilodnot was shot through tlio

dred negroes escaped but it was reported
