WW I DID FDR SPRING BREAK: Three students and two adultsfrom the First Presbyterian Church
spent Spring Break, March 14-21, in Scotland. Derek Loworn, Emma Johnson and Haley Sims
were accompanied by Pastor Ed Cooky and adult sponsor Lisa Johnson for an educational trip
to learn about the roots of the Presbyterian Church. The group visited Edinburgh, Callander,
Stirling and Glasgow and toured the national office of the Church of Scotland. Pictured at Stirling

CHS Acaderri ic Banquet
scheduled for May 15
Canadian High School is hosting the
6th annual Academic Awards Banquet
and Awards Ceremony on May 15, at 6:30
p.m. at the Canadian Elementary School
Cafeteria. This event Is an opportunity to
recognize students who have excelled aca-
demically during the school year. Among
the areas of recognition are Top 10 students
li each class, students who qualified for the
Regional UIL meet, and students named
"Who's Who" by their classroom teachers.
Tickets may be purchased at CHS through
Tuesday, May 13, at $8 each. If you plan
to attend, please purchase tickets no later
than May 13th so that organizers can plan
accordingly. "As always, we appreciate your

Austin Johnson s MSU graduate
Austin Johnson graduated May 2 from
the Mississippi State University College of
Education with a Bachelor of Science de-
gree in Clinical Exercise Physiology. He
has been accepted into the Master's pro-
gram and will serve as a graduate assistant.
Austin is a member of Delta Chi Fraternity.
He is the son of Steve and Lisa Johnson of
Canadian who attended the ceremony along
with Austin's siblings, Jet, Emma and Lac-
ey Johnson, his grandparents, Jane John-
son and Betty Harcrow, both of Canadian,
and Paul Hastings of Shamrock, his uncle,
Paul Hastings Jr. of Bastrop, and his aunt,
J.J. Cullender of Canadian. #19

a freshman he was

Writing in 3A. Rustin
has also qualified for
state in choir as a freshman and in Cross-
Exan nation Debate as a sophomore. Al-
though Mabank High School has had state
qualifiers n the past few years, Rustin is
the first student to place at the state level
since 2001. Rustin is the son of Marsha and
Randy Pool of Mabank and grandson of

Career Expo for Panhandle sophomores
The 3rd Annual Top of Texas Career
Expo will be held on Wednesday, May 14,9
a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carter Fitness Center
on the Amarillo College Washington Street
Campus in Amarillo. A wide variety of ex-
hibitors and careers will be covered at the
fair, ranging from agriculture and natural
resources to criminal justice, arts and com-
munications to medical sciences and health
care. The vision for the expo is to educate
Panhandle area high school sophomores
to make informed decisions about career
choices and educational pathways. The
event is hosted by Panhandle Area Health
Education center, Region 16 Education
Service Center, Amarillo Independent
School District, Panhandle WorkSource,
Frank Phillips College, Amarillo College,
Clarendon College, Top of Texas Tech Prep
and West Texas A&M University's College
