Sarah Rader is 2008
winner of Sousa Award
Canadian High School senior Sarah Rader was honored with the John Philip Sousa
Award at the annual CHS Band Banquet held Monday, May 5. Approximately 175
parents and friends attended the banquet held in the Canadian Elementary School
cafetorium. Directors Will Brewer andJerod Hon and assistant director Sarah Beth
Brewer announced awards for Outstanding Musician, Outstanding Marcher, and
presented Go-for-It awards. Chris Dorris and Sarah Rader received the Drum Ma-
jor Awards. The John Philip Sousa Award was created in 1954 with the cooperation
of the daughters of the famous composer and bandmaster. The pinnacle of achieve-
ment in a high school band program, the Sousa Award recognizes outstanding dedi-
cation and superior musicianship. The award has become a nationwide symbol of
excellence in musical achievement.
