Exchange student makes
trip to Washington, D.C.
By Beth Briant
Anto Laumann, Rotary's exchange
student from Argentina, presented a pro-
gram for the Rotary club on Tuesday, May
6, about her trip to Washington D.C. with
Beth Briant last week. Anto and Beth vis-
ited Washington D.C. for three days with
a group representing the Independent
Banker's Association of Texas.
During the first evening, after visit-
ing Union Station, they toured some of
the city's monuments, including the Lin-
coln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial,
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Ko-
rean War Veterans Memorial, the Frank-
lin D. Roosevelt Memorial, and the Iwo
Jima Monument. The following morning,
they visited the DAR Museum and the
United States Botanic Gardens. After at
the National Museum of the American
Indian, one of Mac Thornberry's aides
took them on a tour of the United States
Capitol. That evening, they attended a
rooftop reception overlooking the Capitol.
The next morning, they toured the White
House (the tour was arranged by Mac
Thornberry's office), and then attended
meetings with various elected officials,
including Congressman Mac Thornberry,
Congressman Randy Neugebauer (from
Lubbock), and Texas Senators Kay Bailey
Hutchison and John Cornyn. On the final
morning in the capital, Anto paid a visit
to the Argentina Embassy. Because May
1 was a national holiday in Argentina, the
Embassy was closed. However, it was still
impressive to her just to see the beautiful
facility with her Argentina flag proudly
displayed.
Anto thanked the Rotary Club and
the Briants for the opportunity to visit
Washington D.C. Anto told the group that
