The new two-story center, located at 4900
Harry Hines Blvd., houses six surgical and four
endoscopic suites, preparatory and recovery
rooms and an orthopedics and pain center. It will
open on Jan. 8.
More than 15,200 procedures were conducted
last year in the existing operating room, original-
ly built in 1954, exceeding any other academic
hospital in the country. The facility currently
operates 24 hours a day to meet demand.
"Our work together is ongoing," said
Anderson. "This spring, I have the privilege of
joining Veletta Forsythe Lill, chairperson of the
board of directors of Parkland Foundation, as
honorary co-chairs for the major fundraiser of the
Gay and Lesbian Fund for Dallas."
The Parkland Foundation will be the benefici-
ary at the fourth annual Gay and Lesbian Fund
for Dallas fundraiser. The event is set for March
24, 2007 at the Old Red Courthouse, 100 S.
Flouston St. in Dallas.
"We are grateful to the Gay and Lesbian Fund
for Dallas for choosing Parkland as the benefici-
ary of their major fundraiser," said Lill in a press
release. "We believe in the mission of this organ-
ization and are honored to receive their donation
and serve as honorary chairs for the fund-raising
event."
Enrique MacGregor and Mark Mermann
founded the non-profit organization in 2001.
Since then, the Fund has donated more than
$500,000 to Dallas agencies.
"Parkland's importance cannot be overstated,"
said MacGregor in a press release. "They pro-
vide care for thousands of people and they con-
sistently rank high among U.S. hospitals in sev-
eral areas.
"Our spring fundraiser is a great opportunity
for our diverse community to make a visible con-
tribution to an institution that is essentially in the
business of saving people's lives."

AIDS Interfaith Network honors
volunteers for excellent service
From Staff Reports
AIDS Interfaith Network has recognized
seven individuals and two community organiza-
tions with the 2006 Awards Of Excellence In
Volunteer Service.
AIDS Interfaith presented the awards at its
20th anniversary celebration on Nov. 17.
AIDS Interfaith presents awards in seven vol-
unteer service categories: Client Services,
Agency-Based Services, Daire Center Service,
AIN Board of Directors Service, Community

Criteria used to select recipients include effec-
tiveness, dollars saved because of donated serv-
ices and time, the number of volunteer hours
donated, quality of their volunteer service and
outstanding volunteer efforts.
AIDS Interfaith selected this year's award
winners from hundreds of volunteers, and each
one exhibits exemplary or long-term volunteer
service for the agency, according to AIDS
Interfaith's director of volunteers, Mary
Marshall.
Andy Smith, board president for AIDS
Interfaith said, "During the past year, volunteers
have reached out to their North Texas neighbors
both near and far, especially during drastic
HIV/AIDS government funding cutbacks. AIN's

anniversary was the ideal time to honor these
volunteers who meet local community needs and
call the public's attention to their tremendous
contributions."
The Rev. Steven Pace, the agency's executive
director, added, "Our volunteers perform count-
less acts of service and are one of AIN's, and
Dallas', most valuable assets. These volunteers
and organizations help make AIN a place of hope
for so many. Because of them, AIN can celebrate
20 years of help and continue to inspire lifetimes
of hopes."
The Award for "Outstanding Volunteers for
Excellence in Community Service" went to the
Big D Classic bowling tournament, which has
named AIN as one of its beneficiaries since 2002
and has distributed more than $18,000 to its ben-
eficiaries since its inception in 2001.
Deborah Driscoll was named "Outstanding
Volunteer for Excellence in Events and
Fundraising." Driscoll began volunteering for
AIN in January 2006, and has been instrumental
in planning and organizing the agency's upcom-
ing fundraising event, The Bloomin' Ball, which
is new for 2007, Marshall said. She has also
