Dear Sir. ^
^ill you permit me altho sptr.e what
tat*, late, to congratulate you on your restoration to liberty,
to Texas, and to your Friends, amongst the latter, I shall
take every opportunity to convince you that I am. to be num-
bered, I expect you have forgotten that you ever H was
acquainted with auch a being as me, but Sir, The desire you
evinced to favour my mother and myself with land in 1833
when we were on <jur way to Matamoras, has not—been forgotten
by me, and I take this opportunity 4f returning you thanks
for your kindness at that time, and at the same time as -
sure yop that if an opportunity should offer I shall esteem
it a favour to be permitted to show my gratitude in acts

I am aware that the station you hold as representative

will aim their (fetters, and nunt confess that this knowledge
should have detered me from troubling you with a letter from
me, it should but the subject on which t wish to get your
opinion is of such vital importance to many of the settlers
in this part of Texas, and I know that the friendship you
have fir the citizens of Texas will cake it a pleasure to*
answer some questions, which n) person is so well qualified

this, I will tell you sir why I a^ ao anxious for an answer
since I saw you in 33 I have commenced the practice of
law in this Jurisdiction, and have been applyed to by a
number of the citizens of thin colony to anpwer certain
