A native of Pennsy'vania. Mr
Rand is a graduate of Purdue
University with a degree in c-
teetricat engineering
A veteran of Wortd War I. he
served two years w ith the United
States Air Force, part <-! that time
seeing service with the Royal Air
Force in England, and latrr the
St. Mihiel and Aleuso Argot'no
drives in France. While awaiting
transportation back to the United
States he attended Sorhonn; Uni-
versity in Paris following the
close of the war.
Mr. Rand's first jol was as a
iunior engineer with the Denver
Gas and Electric Company Suc-
ceeding advancements in the e-
lectric industry included: engineer
with the electric company at Am-
arilto: in charge of distribution
and transmission construction with
the electric company in Denver:
in charge < f the engineering de-
partment o) the etectric utility in
Amaritlo; and general superin-
tendent of the electric utility
based in Rapid City. South
Dakota
Mr. Rand m .ved from South
Dakota to .lack^onvilte in 1933 to
become division manager of the
local electric utility. ]n 1343, when
Southwestern Electric S e r v i c o

Company and to work for the de-
velopment and betterment of the
area, and looks forward to being
able to concentrate his efforts to-
ward this goal. However, he
further stated. "My plans right
now include some traveling, the
kind which f have never had time
for before. Mrs Rand and ! are
planning a trip in the fall, which
will include the World's Fair, a
visit to my home town in Pen-
nsylvania. possibly a visit to
South Dakota where we lived
for several vears. and many points
in between '
