Miss Sammie Kate Harrison and Bitty Fred Burt Married In A
Smith Methodist Church At Atto Saturday Nighty June 15
During the twilight hour and
under the soft glow of candlelight
Mtss Sanimie Kate Harrison be-
came the bride of Billy Fred
Bur; in a double-ring ceremony,
performed Saturday, June 15, at
8 o'clock in the A. Frank Smith
Methodist Church.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fisher Harrison
of 404 Marcus St., and Mr. Burt
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James
C. Burt of Alto.
The Rev. Sam Duree, pastor of
the Cokesburv Methodist Church
of Houston, and former pastor of
Alto Methodist Church, heard the
couples' vows before an altar
banked with candles and altar
vases of white mums and ma-
jestic daisies. Six seven-branch
candelabra flanked by baskets of
white gladioli and greenery
formed the altar background.
Mrs. Grady Singletary was at
the organ for the pre-ceremony
music, which included "Indian
Love Call." "Only A Rose,""0
Promise Mt," "Memories," '1
Love You Truly," "Perfect Day,"
"To A Wild Rose," and "Dream of
Love." She also presented the tra-
ditional Wagner Wedding March
and Mendelssohn recessional, and
accompanied Miss Sherry Wil-
liams, ".-ho sang "Whither Thou
Goest."
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride cnose an original
gown cf silk organza and Chan-
tilly lace over taffeta fashioned
with basque bodice, re-embroid-
ered lace a;nt lung sleeves tapered
to a point at theorist, with sroop
neckline. The bouffant skirt was
accented with pearl-embroidered
lace appliques, and extended into
a chapel train.
A small pearl ttara crown held
the bride's illusion veil and she
carried white orchids, surrounded
by stephanotis and white maline
She wore the traditional blue
garter and something old, some-
thing borrowed and something
Miss Dianne Holcomb attended
her cousin as maid of honor, and
bridesmaids were: Miss Suzanne
Bartlett, Miss Martha Clifton.
Miss Kathleen Moses of Alto;
Mrs. Steve McCarty, Mrs. Mike
Grimes of Nrcogoches; Mrs.
Charles Dean Davis of Houston.
and Miss Janis Carver of Port
Arthur.
Junior bridesmaids were Little
Misses Angela Moses of Bellaire,
Venessa Burt of Port Arthur,
Sylvia ana DeLayne Bacon of
Newton.
All attendants were gowned

mother was attired in a soft pink
silk shantung dress with match-,
ing hat. gloves and sh'ies and
wore a pink orchid corsage.
Immediately following the c r-
emonv a reception was held in
the fellowship hall of the church
The brides tablp was covered
with a floor-length white satin
cloth with lace overlay down the
center. An arrangement of whit<
and yellow mcrgaret daisies and
carnations in a silver and cr/stai
bowl centered the serving table.
The arrangement was flanked by
thrcc-branch silver candelabra
holding white tapers.
Miss Diane Lyons of Carthage,
served the three-tiered wed'iin^
rake which was set on a rcfiec-
or. Each tier of the cake was out-
lined with small yellow roses and
rosettes and tiny bell-like flowers
[were placed atound its base. A
miniature bride and groom en-
tered the top layer.
Miss Joan Clevenger of Houston
presided at the crystal punch
service. Miss Sherry Williams
registered the guests from a table
with an arrangement of white
and yellow daisies in a six-branch
silver candelabrum.
A white rtce tree centered an-
other table at the end of the hall,
surrounded by smalt rice bags.
tRiven to the cue-^ts bv the junior
bridesmaids and flower girl, and
were showered on the couple as
they left the church.
The bride chose a yellow linen
tweed suit with matching hat and
white accessories for her going
away attire. She wore a white
