She related understanding to a
picture of two young students —
one from Camargo and one from
Rio — as reaching out for one
another.
"Understanding, thinking of
others is part ol learning," she
said. "When we learn to live. work,
play together, then we have
established a principle, a truth that
makes our educational system even
stronger."
Children should never stop
learning, she said.
"The years have gone by quickly.
1 have never stopped learning
because there is so much out there.
A man does not quit studying
because he grows old; he grows old
because he quits studying."
The proclamation was signed by
Rio GrandeCity Mayor Baldeniar
Garza, Superintendent Ramon
Hinojosa and Board of Trustees
President Basilio Villarreal.
"It really is important that we
comc together to recognize
something as important as this,"
said Garza, who praised Ms.
Trevifto for positively touching the
lives of so many people in the
area.
Villarreal said, "I'd like to tell
the parents that this is an
opportunity, in my opinion an
obligation, for you to come and to
see how our school systems are
functioning, how they were
functioning before, how they
function now and how they will
function in the future.
"Things are good and they are
going to get better," he said.
Hinojosa recognized the
campuses that sent students to the
ceremony.

weather, but because we sec here in

Grande City High School
Amphitheatre on Monday morning
as some 100 students, teachers,
administrators and community
leaders looked on.
Ms. Trevino, the chairperson for
the high school's English Dept.
the past 22 years, said her
longevity was "based on thoughts
and ideas."
The Rio High graduate said she
was happy to be addressing such a
positive audience.
She said positive meant mighty,
powerful. extreme, intense,
abundant and incomparable.
"Education is a must because
illiteracy and ignorance will never
be a defense against anything,"
Ms. Trevino said.
She praised the public school
system, saying it provides a solid
education for children.
