The bride-elect is a graduate of
the University of Texas at San
Antonio.
The couple plan a March 4

the hard work, dedication, and
discipline displayed. We do know
that this discipline comes from the
home. We arc very grateful for the
support given by all parents of
these talented students."
Higa Promoted To
Air Force Major
l.loyd S. Higa, son of James E.
and Tomiko Y. Higa of 99-618
Kaakau Place, Alca, Hawaii, has
been promoted in the U.S. Air
Force to the rank of major.
Higa is a pilot at tinker Air Force
Base, Ore., with the 966th Airborne
Warning and Control Training
Squadron.
His wife, Pctra, is the daughter of
Amalio and Guadalupe G Lopez in
Roma, Texas.
T he major is a 1973 graduate of
Damian Memorial High School,
and a 1977 graduate of Loyola
University, Los Angeles.
Three hundred and fifty three
students of
TSTI-Harlingcn/McAllen, including
12 from Starr County, were
candidates for graduation on Friday,
Feb. 17. The cap and gown
ceremonies were held in the
Harlingen Municipal Auditorium
starting at 7 p.m.
These 1989 TSTI graduation
candidates come from 49 Texas
cities, including 28 within the Rio
Grande Valley. Many Harlingen
campus and McAilen Extension
candidates who completed
requirements in an earlier quarter
will also have the privilege of
returning to Harlingen for these
formal commencement ceremonies.
All the TSTI candidates have
completed one of 25 courses of
study on the Harlingen campus or
at the McAilen Extension.
All of the technical or skill
development programs of study
range from six to 18 months in
length. Graduates were awarded
associate of applied science degrees
or certificates of completion in this
first of two ceremonies scheduled
for 1989.
