be very proud of this effort."
In recognition of their
achievement, the local group has
been awarded an official Knights of
Columbus flag. The K of C flag
was offered as an incentive to those
councils that recorded a 5 percent
net gain in membership for the
period Jan. 1-Dec. 31,1988.
It is the first official flag in the
106-year history of the Knights of
Columbus, and its design combines
blue and red from the Order's
emblem, yellow from the papal
flag, and white and green from the
expeditionary flag of Christopher
Columbus, the Order's patron.
The flag incentive was conducted
in conjunction with an ongoing
"Share The Spirit" membership
campaign. Throughout 1988,
Knights were asked to recruit new
members in honor of the Supreme
Chaplain of the Knights of
Columbus, Bishop Thomas V.
Daily.
In total, more than 100,000 new
members were recruited Orderwide
during the 1988 calendar year. A
new phase of "Share the Spirit" has
been instituted for 1989, honoring
all members of the Catholic clergy.
Ricardo E. Rccio, District
Deputy No. 50, presented the award
to Jose A. "Coche" Garcia, Grand
Knight; A' Porras, Membership
Director; anu Carlos Lara, Jr.,
