novels and romances, and the, if possible still more
pernicious doctrines of so cailled philosophers who
are industriously engaged In removing all the ancient
land-marks, unsettling the minds of youth, and rear-
ing false ¿n'd ruibous Systems of religion and morals.

Levying a license tax on Livery Stables.
Sec; Í. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of Iba
city of Galveston in councilcmix enrd.That from and after the pas-
sage or this ordinance the owner owners or keepers ofevery liv«
ery stable {or stable kept for public, accommodation) kept within
the corporate limits of the city of Galveston, be and they sra
hereby required to procure from the Mayor's office a license (or
the same, for which license the owner owners or keepers shsll
pay into tlm City Treasury the sum of twenty dollars.
Sec. 2. Bé it further ordained that any person or persons refu-
sing or neglecting to pf-ocUre a license as required in the forgot
ing section of Ibis ordinance shall be subject to pay upon convio-
