Mr. Miffln's Terrible Gun.
From Ihe Norwalk (Conn.) Hour.
On the floor in one ol the rooms of the
Norwalk Iron Works compiny is a long
heavy cylinder. Its length Is about 38 feet
and the diameter of the bore Is about four
Inches. In another department men are at
work construciing an air compressor. When
the latter is completed it will be connected
with thetube mentioned above and what the
Inventor' confidently believes will be a must
tremendous engine of war will be completed
and ready for trial. Several years ago while
in Washington a gentleman from Ohio heard
a naval officer say that If a gun could be con-
structed that would throw dynamite it would
thoroughly revolutionize modern warfare.
Mr Miftin that was the gentleman's nsme
proceeded at once to invent such a gun and
he has reason to believe that it will be a per-
feet success It would not do to use powder
as a propelling power for Its sudden action
would explode the dvnamite cartridge at the
start and blow the gun to atoms. Compreiiid
a'r at a pressure of abnut 300 pounds to. the
uire men will take ine place 01 powder
nd the run now in South Norwalk is ex
pected to throw a three pound carliide a dii.
tanceof two miles Irascine the effect of a
cartridge of even s small a weight striklnp
Ihe side or deck of a vessel or the ramparts
of a fort. The explosion would be teniffic In
its results. If the gun is a success others of a
size sufficient to throw ico pounds of dyna-
mite to miles will be constructed. The gun
loaded with ssnd instead of dynamite will be
tested in South Norwalk at an early day in
Ihe presence of naval officers scientific men
d others.

A few remarks in regard to this dlrcnso may not be out of place here as It Is so common.
Neatly all have tho trouble at some timo tn the a cutworm and call tt a cold. Sometimes they

Nearly all are familiar with catarrh in the form of bronchitis.

Any or several of these may follow and be caused by a neglocted cold. Itelow are a few nanus

Tho diseases of tho eye are very numerous
nized by the oculist nil requiring different treatment In order to euro tbcm and restore good
vision. Yet nothing shows the folly ofsjoing to
organ lhan the fact that ho has only sufficiently
to recognlzo from thrco to ft dozen. It Is la this and the careful application of proporly selected
remedies to tho and the different attentions of tho eye that the superiority aud the sucocss ot
tho Oculist consist.
Nearly all the diseases of tho eye are curable even In the severo forms if clearly understood
and properly treated and attondod to In the earlier stages before It has had timo to destroy or
Injuro permanently the vision. Hut those cases that show blemishes and defects of vision and
blindness so frequently) are casca In which thero has been delay In seeking an Oculist and
valuablo timo was wasted by trying somo domestic remedies or what Is nearly as bad trying
the ordinary physician.
I do not mean by my remarks above to condomn or crltlclso the general practitioner for
treating Catarrh or diseases of the live or Rttr that oceur In his praotlco. It Is hlsdnty toglvo
relief to all who am suffering in any and every way possible and no doubt alldo the best they

What I do want everybody to understand Is that I here are a class of specially Instructed and

I aeo In this country many oaes of Strabismus ("crooked eyw" thoy are generally termed)
