contracted by it.
SEC. 9. The said board of trustees shall appoint an assessor
and collector of taxes for said school district as created by this
Act, and shall furnish to said assessor and collector of taxes a
seal containing the words: "Assessor and Collector of Taxes"'
in the inside margin and the words: "French Independent School
District" in the outside margin, which said seal shall be impressed
on and to all his official certificates, statements or other
official instruments in the official discharge of the duties imposed
upon his office. And said assessor and collector of taxes is hereby
empowered to administer oaths and affirmations necessary and
pertaining to all school matters and affairs. Said assessor and collector
of taxes shall receive from and be paid by the board of trustees
of said school district out of the general or maintenance funds
of said school district the compensation as provided by Article
2861, Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, of 1911, for his services
in the assessment and collection of the current taxes of the said
school district as created by this Act. And said assessor and
collector of taxes shall receive, in addition to the compensation
herein otherwise provided, a fee of one dollar for each redemption
tax receipt issued by him, which fee shall be paid by the
person, firm or corporation to whom said redemption tax receipt
is issued. And it is further provided, that said assessor and
collector of taxes shall receive, in addition to the compensation
herein otherwise provided, a fee of ten cents per line for each
entry of each tract of property made by him in the delinquent
tax record and the compiled delinquent record of delinquent taxable
property in said school district, which fees shall be additional
compensation for the compilation of said delinquent
records, and which fees shall be charged to and taxed as costs
against the person or persons and property against whom the
assessment is made, and said fees shall be paid to said assessor
and collector of taxes as fees of office and paid to him as such
in the collection of such delinquent taxes, either by voluntary
payment of taxes or the enforced collection thereof by suit.
SEC. 10. The said board of trustees shall elect some suitable
person who is a resident of said school district as secretary of the'
board of trustees of said school district, which person as such
secretary shall receive such compensation as said board of
trustees shall deem to be reasonable and consistent with the
duties imposed; provided, that in event the said secretary shall
be elected from the membership of said board of trustees, that
such trustee shall not receive any compensation of any nature'
for services as such secretary.
SEC. 11. The said board of trustees shall provide a suitable'
office or offices for the said secretary of said board of trustees
and said assessor and collector of taxes. And, it is here made
the duty of said board of trustees to furnish and equip said
officers and said offices with the necessary records, stationery,
furniture and office equipment as are necessary for the proper
keeping of all records of said school district and the proper dis-
