the Salt Fork of the Brazos Ri'er
aiul east of Highway 83 in Stone,
wall County will elect a man to
represent them on the board of su-
pervisors of the King Stonewall
Soil Conservation District. Th? elec-
tion will be October 5, 1948 at 8

house. All farmers and ranchers liv-
ing in the area described are urged

Soil Conservation District
The Soil Conservaiton district is
a cooperative formed by farmers
and ranchers for farmers and
ranchers. It is a legally constiuttcd
unit of local government set up
under the State Soil Conservation
District law, but it cannot levy
taxes or asscs:7'.r.ents, or issue bonds.
It was established by a petition of
land owners and a m;writy vote of
land owners at an election. Tin;
district business is conducted by an
elected board of five land owners
serving without pay. Every land
owner has a voice in shaping dist-
rict policies.
The -district supervisors coordin-
ate the activities of local, state and
federal agencies, with cooperate in- j
to a completely integrated prograra

Tire purpose of the district is to |
help you and your neighbors solve ,
your soil and water conservation
problems.
It works for the good of all far-
mere and ranchers and the general
welfare of all the people. The op-
I crating proceedure represents de:ro-
i cracy at its best.
