Dealing With Stress
By: Lyndic Conner
What is it about
this semester that lias
everyone up in arms''
Or is it just the people
I come into contact
with? Or is it iist me '
Lately I've noticed
an overwhelming amount
of people freaking out
and having breakdowns
because classes hae
overtaken their lives.
Now before you
naysayers get all huffy
about college being about
classes let me explain; it's
not the classes themselves
but instead the amount of
work pouring forth I mm
every course that has
overwhelmed so so many
of us around campus.
Stress seems to be the
theme ol spring '06. and
apparently it has no plans
of letting up. Right now.
people have to contend
with classes social clubs
organiations. registration
graduation. Imaiici.il
aid housing summer
plans summei school
the list goes on and on....
and as lar as anyone can
see there is no escape.
Every time I look at
the calendai I am shocked
to see how last the weeks
are Hying by. especially
since all I ever seem to
do anymore is work on
projects papers and
daily assignments. I Icel
buried undci a mountain
of paperwork and I have
even been dreaming about
school lately and it you
know me-1 don't ever
dream about school. It's
not the walking across the
stage or the way to make
an A on oui papei ty pe of
dreams either-1 literally
dream that I'm writing
papers or presenting
projects. I have reached
an entirely new level ol
neurotic and the worst
part is that I seem to be
getting more done in my
dreams than in real life.
It's pathetic and I
Sophomores
Its that time in the
academic yeai that MSG
looks at the student body
to elect the new leadeis
for the upcoming year.
My name is Terrance
Thomas and I am glad to
say that I am looking at
the student body too. I am
running for Sophomore
class president this month
in hopes of a kick butt
campaign. Lets cut to
the chase though. I know
that most of you probably
already know who I am.
If I did not randomly give
you a business caid you
have seen me running
around with a suit on.
And if you know me
personally you would
know it I feel sorry for
the people who have to
be around me because
I'm always one step
away from collapsing to
the lloor. taking the fetal
position and crying.
All in all. it seems
pretty hopeless but
such is not the case.
Don't let the stress get
to you- it's like Van
Wilder said "Woirying
is like a rocking chair
it gives you something
to do but it doesn't get
you any where" and that
pretty much rings true to
college lite in general.
Now. I icalie it's easy
to say "hey. don't stress"
and be done with but
no worries I have tips.
Schedule daily tasks
like today I have to get
(fill in the blank) done
and that's all 1 have to do
today. Try giving yourself
some sort of icward; like
say. write a paper now
and get new shoes later.
Or il shoes aren't your
thing then ice cream or
play some Halo- whatever
makes you happy. Taking
little breaks helps me out
a lot. and I find that il I
do things in spurts 1 tend
to be moie productive.
Do m assignment for one
class for a while and then
switch gears to a different
class. Or. study a little
and then take a break and
then study some more.
Basically if you try at
all to manage the amazing
amount ol stiess in your
life then you're less
likely to spiral downward
mtoad.uk. scary pit of
depiession. It's haul and
college kids don't really
get enough credit foi the
amount ol stress they 're
able to take on. but il you
can balance all of hle's
little tasks thenyou'ie
line. Besides you've only
got one more month until
you're done anyway- so
just hold out until then.
of the Future
know that I like to get
things done. I am not
going to promise that I
will do this and do that
blah blah blah. I will
promise a gieat attitude
and consistent character. I
don't believe in lying till
my teeth turn to butter. So
I will always keep it real.
I will always be available
to answer questions.
Your concerns are my
concerns. I am willing to
take time out and talk to
people. Of course most
ol you aheady know
that. 1 believe that I have
the leadership potential.
So take these words and
think to yourself did
Terrance keep it real?

Buffalo Gap Chips
on Win Streak
The Buffalo
Gap Chips remained
undefeated in tournament
play winning the Texas
Forts Trail Vintage
Base Ball Tournament
last Saturday.
In the first game
the Chips made quick
work of the Montgomery
College Stars batting
through the entire order
while tallying 5 aces
before being retired. With
Scott "Sparks" Douglas
allowing only I run in
the bottom of the frame
they continued with
workmanlike efficiency.
They tallied 7 more aces
behind the solid hitting
of Matt "Mitts" Crisman
Terry "Cookie" Juarez
and Arlen "Huff and
Puff Daddy" Jcffcry.
with Douglas shutting
out the Stars for the
remainder of the game.
In the second game
the Abilene 407s were
stymied by the Texas
Forts Trail Irregulars.
Although they shut out
the Irregulars for three
innings while taking
a 1 to nothing lead off
Bob "Bonccrushcr"
Wettcmann's RBI in the
bottom of the third an
awkward run down and
error at the plate opened
the way for the soldier
boys who scored runs
in the 4th 5th and 6th
innings while holding
the 407s to big fat goose
eggs relegating them to
the loser's bracket game.
The frustration for
the 407s continued in
their final game as they
were shut down by the
Montgomery College
Stars 2 to 1 with the
score icmaming as low
as it was due to a less
than imp.iiti.il crowd who
convinced the umpire
that a close play at home
was made by the 407s.
In the Championship
game the Chips returned
in fine form blanking
the Forts Trail Irregulars
through seven en route to
a 3-0 victory and going
home with the tournament
trophy (which along
with the first resides in
the McMurry University
History Department).
Special recognition
goes to Terry "Cookie"
Juarc who was named
the Tournament's "Most
Valuable Ballist."
The Chips and 407s
will leturn to the field on
Saturday when they will
play a brief exhibition
game in recognition
of Judge Green Day at
Driggers Field. Play on
the practice field will
commence at 1 1 :45.
Until then
