Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Gary Wilson models the winner of the 2003 Ugly Tie
Competition sponsored by Dr. Charles Etheridge. Those with nominations brought ties by Dr.
Etheridgc's office so that faculty and staff could vote. The winner received a collection of baked
goods and the honor of having their tie worn by Dr. Etheridge in his picture for the Totem. The
winning entry "Cac-tie" is owned by Charlie Hukill. The second and third place ties belong to
Dr. K. 0. Long with special recognition awarded to Dr. Richard McLamore whose tie "would
have placed had he entered."

McMurry the relationship between teach-
ers and students It's much more lormal in
Italy I like that there are so many campus
activities you can get involved 111 "

really learned the language when she came
over "It was really hard in the beginning.

Hranclietti misses her lather and her cul-
ture "It's really ust the little things the way
we do things pist a little dillerently W'e
don't have many last food places we usu-
ally stay home to eat That really Iruslrated
me in the beginning." said Hranclietti
"I he classes I took in Pampa covered
what I'd done the year belore at home I
bad to catch up a whole year in a week I
managed it. but barely My teachers didn't
like that I'd gone away lor a year They're
not used to people going away "
"W'e went to school Irom eight in the
morning to one in the .illeruoon and then
went home lor lunch W'e had six classes m
that time We had homework over
t hristnias and summer breaks and they
actually cheeked them" Hranclietti com-
mented A Her she earns her degree in marketing
Hranclietti would like to earn her master's
in business in the United States "but it's
still early." she said
