Dear Editor:
Ms. Karen Lafferty (the
young lady who sang such an
impressive solo concert in
chapel last Wednesday Sep-
tember 15th 7976) was well-
received by all who heard her.
She allowed God to work
through her. God began con-
victing me and gently
reprimanding me through her
songs. I felt an inspiration to
write this letter after I heard
her. I have learned a lot about
people and specifically
Christians here at Howard
Payne. When I first came here I
trusted no one. Quite naturally

feel many other students at
Howard Payne University
enjoyed the program of rock
music provided by the band
Titus Oates. I also believe that
many students who enjoy rock
music were offended by being
compared to tree-dwelling apes.
Randy Skinner put himself in
the same mental capacity as an
"anthropoid" by being so ab-
surdly nearsighted as to state
that spending student's money
for rock entertainment is
asinine. Is Mr. Skinner the
Judge of what fits the interestes
of students at H.P.U.?
Mr. Skinner's reference to
"noise from the deep Jungle" is
a misjudged conception of rock
music. Has he ever studied a
recording and listened to the
elaborate productions of such
performers as Simon and
Garfunkel or the Beatles. They
are not authors of "Jungle
noise." They are authors of
music that will be held as
classics in the future.
Last I would like to bring up
the subject of maturity. In high
school when students did not
like an assembly they talked
got up and left or created a
general disorder. After one
assembly in which the students
were exceptionally unruly a
teacher remarked to me that a
mature person will endure
things that he may dislike in
order to receive things that suit
his tastes. The purpose of
assemblies is to please all of the
students at one time or another
and everyone cannot be pleased
all of the time.
We must compromise our
interests in a mature fashion.
Only in this manner may all of
the people eventually get what
they want. This principle is the
basis of our nation and a
principle that we will be
required to adhere to in order to
survive in the world.
Sincerely
BiUEgger
