SEGUIN - Texas Lutheran
College avenged the only
blemish on its record over the
past three seasons here
Saturday night by drilling
Howard Payne University 33-16
in a non-conference football
game.
Texas Lutheran defending
for the second consecutive year
its NAM Division U cham-
pionship made sure recent
history did not repeat itself by
building up a 324 advantage by
the third quarter using a
pounding ground attack and
several breaks in the con-
struction. When the" game was over
last Saturday night In Seguin

The Yellow Jackets shocked
the Lutherans with a 17-12 win
in Cen-Tex Stadium a year ago
but this year's host cruised to a
264 half time lead in assuring
the victory.
That loss last year is the only
defeat Texas Lutheran has
suffered .over the past three
campaigns including this
season.
But the Jackets coughed up
six fumbles which killed drives
early in the game keeping the
Baptists off the scoreboard until
late in the final quarter.
Meanwhile Texas Lutheran
was taking advantage of
numerous breaks converting
them into points and at times
employing unneeded good luck
to keep cashing in at the
scoreboard.
Once the Jackets did get
untracked in the late going they
produced two touchdowns
sandwiched around a safety
but still not enough to prevent
Texas Lutheran's 12th con-
secutive win.
The Jackets drove 81 yards in
10 plays to claim the first TD
getting it on a five-yard pass
from quarterback Howard
Thompson to flanker Larry
kelson. Tom Morren kicked the
first of his two extra points.
The safety was added with
1:22 left in the game as the
Bulldogs ware forced to eat the
ball after a bad snap from pont
formation at the II.
The Jackets hiked the spore
fain on the last play of the
game as Thompson pitched to
