Letters of Sam Houston, an Austin emigration document, City of
Houston items, and William B. Travis letters added flavor to the manu-
script and documents category.
Anyone with a desire for Texas primitive furniture found a golden
opportunity to pick up some really fine pieces. A walnut and pine pie
safe, a deep food-storage cabinet, a German two-door wardrobe of
Texas pine, and a hand-planed pine cabinet on legs were among the
many eye-catchers.
T. G. Bradford's Map of Mexico, Guatemala, and the West Indies,
and Guillaume Delisle's Carte du Mexique et de la Floride high-
lighted the selection of interesting maps.
The specialty items and excursions attracted wide attention on both
days. Imagine a buffalo hunt in Palo Duro Canyon, a deep-sea fishing
trip for two, or a getaway to historic Fayetteville. Or would you have
liked to have bid on a pair of Justin boots, American miniature horses,
a Longhorn bull, one of many beautiful quilts, the Texas Star (a five-
pointed, white-enameled, ball-tipped star with gold arrowheads in an-
gles, authorized by a Mexican law in 1840 for Mexican generals and
officers who participated in the Texas Campaign), or a model 1894
Winchester rifle?

chairman, Sue Bentley, T. L. and Evelyn Wilson, Ron C. Tyler, Dan E.
Kilgore, John H. Jenkins, F. Lee Lawrence, Mrs. Charles Bybee, Wil-
liam J. Hill, Paul G. Bell, Jr., Clifton Caldwell, J. C. Martin, Ralph
Sharman, and Val Taylor), and to all others who contributed in so
many ways to a successful and memorable event.
