Heroes in Peace
The decade is not without its great
leaders. Henry Kissinger Begin Sadat
and Pope John Paul II. Their efforts in
behalf of peace however
Strolling down memory lane we re-
member the ones we lost in the 70's.
Louis ArmstrongxCharles de Gaulle
Charles Lindbergh Bing Crosby Jack
Benny John Wayne Charlie Chaplin
Hubert Humphrey and the King.
To replace these heroes we had turn
in other directions. We idolized the Font
Farah Faucett Cheryl Tiegs Howard
Jarvis Archie Bunker Evil Knievel
John Belushi Steve Martin and maybe
Billy Carter.
The White House witnessed a collapse
in the faith of the Presidency. After an
outstanding display of support in the 1972
election Richard Nixon resigned his of-
fice in 1974 after the shocking events
concerning Watergate were unraveled.
Gerald Ford tackled the job next and
ruled for two unheralded years. Next
came the man from Georgia who pro-
claimed "My name is Jimmy and I want
to be your President."
There were events and people to for-
get. The scaring of a nation at Three-
Mile Island the insanity of Idi Amin air
disasters at San Diego and Chicago the
revolt at the Attica State Prison in New
York the human horrors of the Vietnam
War the Son of Sam and the plight of
- refugees in Cambodia and Vietnam.
It wasn't a decade too pretty to look
at. The moments of peace and beauty
were too far between. To find happiness
man turned to escapism. ..flying a hot-air
balloon across the ocean becoming a
star on the disco floor dreaming of fill-
ing the athletic shoes of some sports
hero. It is hard to think of reality in
terms of the future but man must do so
to succeed in the 80's.
Money Needed to Aid
Cambodian Refugees
Money is needed to aid Southern Bap-
tist Missionaries working Cambodian ref-
ugee camps in Thailand.
Over 200000 Cambodians are expected
to die from starvation by the first of the
year if they do not receive aid. Southern
Baptist Missionaries! are in charge of
two relief camps in the Cambodian bor-
der area of Thialand. ' "
Anyone wishing to contribute to the re
lief fund may do so by sending a check
to the World Hunger Fund Southern
Baptist Mission Boardi Box 6597 Rich-
mond Va. 23230. All checks should be
accompanied by a letter indicating that
the money is intended for the work in
Cambodia. Unlike other hungry pro-
grams all money given will be used for
the camps and not on other expenses.

corded his fourth absence of the semester at Wednesday night's meeting Al-
though Hambleton had contacted Congress that a new job would not allow him to

four excused or unexcused absences result in automatic removal from Congress.

January. Hambleton will not lose his position as class president.
