BSUReligious Activities Walls must be broken
by Rick Schochler
I had the pleasure of attending the Cornerstone Luncheon in
which the Rev. Dan Yeary (Cornerstone Series lecturer) spoke. I
had anticipated the usual luncheon but found instead a question
proposed to Yeary that took up the majority of the question answer
time allotted. The question was more or less this: Why is it that
there are so many "walls" and so many labels on this campus? The
question struck me profoundly because it is something that had
concerned me for some time now. Our goals as a Christian campus
are to fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ and
minister to those who are not our brothers and sisters. Why do we
from the moment we arrive here as freshmen divide into smaller and
smaller clicks and disassociate ourselves from the rest of the
campus population? This is my call to Christians on this campus:
disenfranchise yourselves. You who are in clubs athletics band.
Student Congress organizations your primary goal is not to your
fellow members but to the total population of this campus. You
cannot be an effective witness if all the people you are surrounded
by are just like you. As Yeary said break the mold befriend more
than just the people who are in your organization break down the
walls.
