Wildkittens Lose Out In First
Contest At San Angelo 25-20
The ACC Wildkittens were
squeezed out by a score of 25-20
at San Angelo Junior College last
Saturday night.
This was the "B" team's first
game of the season. "We have the
ability to win the rest of our
games if we work hard" said one
player noting the fact that the
squad has had little practice to-
gether. ACC received the opening kick-
off in the game.
Led by Johnny Boltman the
Kittens scored after a 40 yard
drive.
San Angelo came back in the
second quarter to tie the game.
In the third quarter San Angelo
out-scored ACC 13-0.
Then in the last quarter after
San Angelo had carried home a
touchdown the Kittens scored a
touchdown and passed for the
two point conversion tally.
But the Kittens were unable
to close the remaining five point
gap in the four minute's game
time left.

Texas Western Miners
Next Wildcat Opponents
"No rest for the wearv" annlies
to the ACC griddcrs as they
tangle tomorrow with a Border
conference power the Texas
Western Miners at El Paso.
In their two engagements this
year the Wildcats have dropped
verdicts to East Texas State
ranked eighth in small college
Top Twenty lists and University
of Chattanooga rated fourth.
The Miners finished third last
year behind Arizona State an un-
defeated major college team and
Hardin-Simmons.
THE EL PASO school has a
feather-weight backfield as col-
lege players go. The fullback and
both halfbacks weigh 155 or less.
Quarterback Bob Laraba is an
exception though at 105.
Laraba Is the leading gainer on
the team mainly because of his
passing ability. Robert Bobo
First North Mabee Captures
Intramural Football Opener
Men's intramural football ac-
tion began with the opening kick
off in a tilt between 1st North
Mabee and the Off Campus team.
North Mabee captured the
opening game 12 to 0 on touch-
down runs by Ronnie Stanton
and David Duncan.
In another Monday game 2nd
East Edwards tangled with the
3rd floor of Edwards to win 13-6.

carried across 2nd East's two
touchdowns.
BILL CONNER and Carl Gar-
ner scored us the Galaxy social
club and Phi Delta Psl battled to
a 13-13 tic.
The Phi Delts 13 points came
on touchdown plays run by Jack
Heffley and Bill Todd and an ex-
tra point run by Jim Woodard.
In another game scheduled for
Monday Barracks 13 forfeited to
1st East Edwuias.
A77CR SEEING this year's in-
tramurals off to a start Dennis
Calvert intramural director ad-
mits that more officials are need-
ed for the games.
He asks that anyone interested
apply at the intramural office
Officials for intramural work are
paid.
The schedule for next week's
football action begins Monday at
4 p.m. Two games are scheduled
each day except Wednesday.
The detailed schedule for men's
intramurals is posted on a bul-
letin board in front of the east
entrance to the Grill says Calvert.
Frosh Injured
Freshman Wildcat Jerry Un-
derwood was the first player of
the season to receive a serious
injury when his leg was broken
during football practice last Mon-
day September 22.
The freshman halfback from
Ranger came out from under a
pile up with his leg broken just
above the ankle.
Underwood said that his leg
would have to stay in a cast for
about six weeks and that ho
probably will not be able to play
anymore this year.
During his senior year at Rang-
er High School Underwood was
chosen for both the All-District
and All-Regional football teams.
(235) and Dan Boyd (210) will
anchor the line. Both are tackles.
Erwin Bishop Don Harber H.
P. Hawkins and Henry Colwcll
may be among friends before the
game at least. This Wildcat four-
some will see five Miners who
were classmates at Abilene high
school.
IN CONTESTS with North
Texas of the Missouri Valley con-
ference and New Mexico univer-
sity the Miners have split.
According to ACC scouting re-
ports In absorbing a loss from
North Texas they appear inept
possibly because of first game in-
experience. Texas Western information
sources have reported a lot of
improvement which resulted in
the Miners' 15-8 victory last week.
Nick Nicholson believes his
Wildcats will be able to meet the
opposition on closer terms than
in the first two games.
FOR ONE thing Don Freiling
center and Moody Connor
guards will be available after
missing the Chattanooga game.
However halfback Kermit Rut-
ledge may be out of action with
an Injured knee. According to the
Wildcat coach Connor could be
at a starting guard slot depend-
ing on the extent of his recovery.
Two planes will carry the Fe-
lines to El Paso one leaving this
afternoon and another tomorrow.
A 33-man squad will make the
trip.
The probable starting eleven:
Ends: Bob McLeod (220) and Don
Raney (187). Tackles: H. B. Rog-
' crs (215) and Standley Scott (208)
Guards: Moody Connor (185) or
Kenneth Greene (185) and Dale
Reynolds (190) Center: Thurman
i Neill (195) Quarterback: Don
Harber (165) Halfbacks: Veon
Scott (185) and Jim Armstrong
(180) Fullback: Heniy Colwell
(170).
