Redlands Calif. will be going to
Washington D. C March
29-April 5 to run for National
Explorer president of the Boy
Scouts of America.
If he wins he will receive a
5300000 budget and travel to
42 states and 38 countries. He
would be traveling three weeks
out of each month with the
final trip being a two-week safari
in Africa.
The election Steve said is
similar to the Democratic
National Convention. This year
the BSA expects about 2800
delegates.

dency. If he wins regionally he
will automatically be one of five
vice presidents and will go on
the safari In Africa.
Steve just returned from
Washington D. C last week
where he served as the emcee for
the Reader's Digest-BSA public-
speaking contest.
He received a 52500 scholar-
ship last year when he won the
Explorer's Division of the con-
test. The Explorer Division is the
BSA's coed carcer-orlcntcd pro-
gram made up of about 500.000
young people.

The day after he won the
contest Steve spoke to members
of Congress at the Congressional
Breakfast.
He and other scouts later
presented President Ford with
"The Report to the Nation."
"The Boy Scouts of America
is the only group in the nation
that is sanctioned by Congress
so it's in their Boy Scouts
charter that they must give an
annual report to Congress and to
the President;' Steve said.
Steve was also introduced to
Vice President Nelson Rocke-
feller: John Glenn former astro-
naut and now senator from
Ohio; Alan Cranston senator
from California: and Gen.
George Brown chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff.
As a result of winning the
contest. Steve was offered three
jobs: by a broadcasting com-
pany. General Motors and
Southwestern Bell.
l never realized how Impor-
tant this contest was. It's just
opened so many doors for
youth."
Steve attended Crafton Mills
College in California at the tjmc
he won the contest.

Pianists horses
Show lovers will have to
follow their own tastes tonight
as both Ferrantc and Tcichcr
and the Royal Lipizzan Stallion
Show come to Abilene for
one-night performances.
Ferrantc and Tcichcr. pianists
will play In the Abilene Civic
Center at 8 p.m. Tickets arc
S4.50.S5.50 and So.50.
A different type of entertain-
ment will be offered in the
Taylor County Coliseum at 8
p.m. by more than 40 horses
including 20 of the famous
Lipizau breed. Tickets arc
S3.50. S4.50 and S5.50. and the
show will benefit the West Texas
Rehabilitation Center.
Ferrauic and Teicher have
been received well by Abilenians
in two previous shows during the
last two years. Their two-piano
music is a matter of both
pianists complementing each
other. They do not play in
unison most of the time.

more than 100 cities this year.
Ferrantc and Tcichcr have 17
gold records.
The parents of each of the
musicians enrolled their child in
the Julliard School of Music in
New York. Both of the children
were prodigies and they worked
together with the same teachers
from the age of sis.
The pianists first toured as
classical musicians with pop
encores. In I960 they recorded
the theme from the movie. "The
Apartment." At that time the
concept of a movie theme being
recorded by two pianos and a
full orchestra was new and it was
very successful. Ferrantc and
Teicher decided to reverse their
format to a pop program
accented with an occasional
classical number.
