St Louis Mo Feb 24 A dispatch
from St Johns N B in regard to tho
arrest of Walton tho Pacificjexpress
robber was received here very late last
night It says Walton was quietlyar
rested Saturday eveuiug by Detectives
Ring and John A Gross of Montreal
He had been in the city some days going
under the name of Simpson He was
boarding at the Clifton house Over
seven thousand dollars was found on his
person and in his valise was a package
containing money which was in the
original wrappings with seals on it Wal-
ton arrived here the lith inst in company
with Johu Laird and Frank Brady two
jiotorious Montreal gamblers to whom
he gave 20000 to get him out of Can-
ada They left here and Walton went
to the Dufferin hotel to board and thence
to the Clifton tho houso where ho was
arrested Laird and Brady after a
couple of days high living with Walton
returned to Montreal Walton was to
have taken passage on tho Portia for the
West indies on Friday Detective Gross
arrested Laird and Brady in Montreal for
aidiug and abotting Walton in bringing
stolen money into Canada He then J < ft
for this city arriving here Saturday Ho
was met at the traiu by Detectives Ring
and MeYickors of the Dominion express
company and proceeded to the Clifton
houso Walton being out au examina-
tion of his room was made and much
evidence found to show he was tho man
wanted As soon as he came into the
hotel ho was made a prisoner and taken
to the police station He made no re-
sistance and did not even ask on what
charge he wbb arrested

the oounty and state for 1890 was fixed
