report upon the torpedo flotillas oper-
ations against the Russian turret ship
Sevastopol was received It says On
the night of Dec 14 our torpedo flotil-
las made a gallant and bravo scries of
attacks against the Russian turret ship
Sevastopol The flotillas arrived out-
side the entrance to Port Arthur about
midnight on that date The leading
flotilla under Comander Unchlda and
a Bpeclal torpedoboat partly tor attack
and partly to reconnolter npproached
the Sevastopol at 1 oclock and under
searchlights and tire jot the enemys
hips and shore batteries they attack-
ed her The shells struck Commander
Mllamuraa torpedoboat and about tour
jots hit Commander Nakaharas boat
wounding three Bailors Subsequently
our flotillas attacked acting Independ-
ently Flotilla A Commander Kasa
ma advanced flrst for tho purpose of
destroying tho defenses protecting the
Sevastopol and also to draw anij di-
vert under tho enemys searchlights

approached the closest and delivered
the most vigorous attacks While ro
treating one torpedoboat received sev-
eral shots simultaneously her com-
mander Lieutenant Nakahori and Ave
others being killed The boat lost
freedom of motion and Lieutenant Na
Iraharas boat went to tho rescue and
despite heavy fire endeavored to save
her While towing the boat the ene
mys shells shattered the hawser Lieu-
tenant Nakaharas boat also was hit
and one man killed Subsequently sev-
eral shells hit nnd almost disabled
Lieutenant Nakaharas boat forcing
him to abandon his comrade ship
which was sinking Lieutenant Naka
hara however steamed back and res-
cued the cicw and abandoned tho tor
pedoboat to Its fate Commander Ka
wnses boat belonging to lite same flo-
tilla was struck by a Rhell killing one
of the crew and wounding Lieutenant
Tnknahah and two sailors Lieuten-
ant Shonos boat was hit and one of
the crew killed nnd live wounded The
boat was temporarily disabled but the
comrade ships with Lieutenants Wn
taeabe and Mori commandlu protected
and rescued her All the other boats
were bravely facing tho enemys llro
ami succeeded In delivering attacks
without sulferlng any damage The
result of tha attacks is not definitely
known although It Is evident numer-
ous torpedoes took effett
The watch tower reporting on the
following morning said tho Sevastopol
had loweied her bows considerably
facing toward tho Bouthsoutheast
Her condition Is such that aha does
not change position In the current She
anchored close Inshore In shallow wa-
ter
It Is a source of satisfaction that
our torpedo attacks were delivered
without the least confusion Each boat
rendered material assistance to Its
comrades Skillful maneuvering and
bnnery of officers and men Inspired
me with a deep feeling of satisfaction
and confldence

Japanese Infantry Charged and Occu-
pied tho Fort
Tokio Dec 20 The Japanese fired
an Immense mine under portions of the
north fort of East Keekwan mountain
at 2 oclock Sunday afternoon The
Infantry Immediately charged and oc-
cupied the fort with a heavy loss

seized a strong position about 1000
yard southeast of 203 Meter hill pre-
paratory to assaulting tho new town
and pushing between Llao Tl moun-
tain and the Russian headquarters at
Port Arthur Tho fighting against

gation received Monday two telegrams
from Toklo One said total casualties
for Japanese during naval operations
at Port Arthur were thirteen killed and
seventeen wounded The second said
there wero six Russian destroyers re-
