In accepting the nomination of
tho Democratic patty to be its
a standard lender Judge Parker
sounded the key note and set pre-
cedent which should be strictly ad
beared to by every patriot Wash
ingtonwas wise and seems to have
wrlttrn with a prescience pos3cs > > d
by few men when bo limitd pres
identinl limit to two consecutive
torms Tho government wn young
posibly lho people inexperienced in
the affairs of an independent gov-
ernment it required u long time to
hear not only fiom the remote por
tion of the then United StoteB but
other portions of the world Now
it is wonderfully different the ua
tion has gone to eighty million
From the remotest portion of the
earth tho time is only n few hourB
Therefore a single term of four
years now is even greater than
perhaps ten years would have been
when Washington threw arouiu
the perpetuity of our great repub-
lic that greatest of safB guards
two consecutive terms It was
the same pure patriotism which
prompted Washington to write his
immortal words that to this day no
American has had the temerity to
set aside except the G 0 P when
they wanted Gen Grant for the
third term which prompted Judge
Parker to say I accept Gentle-
men of tho Committee the nomi-
nation and if the action of the
convention ubull be indorsed by
an election by the people I will
God helping mo give to the dis-
charge of the duties of that exulted
office the best service of which I
am capable and at the end of the
term retire to private life I shall
not be a candidate for nor shall I
accept renomination Several rea-
sons might be advanced for tho
position but the controlling one
with me is that I am fully per
suaded that no incumbent of that
oifico should ever be placed in a
bituation of possible temptation to
consider what the effect of action
taken by him in an administrative
matter of great importance might
have upon his political fortunes
Theeo are words of a statesman
and patriot no one cm doubt but
if elected Judge Parker will be
president of the United Stales not
a democratic president His every
action has demonstrated that he is
a man of superior ability and in-
tensely American with patriotism
as unselfish as any man that has
ever lived Deep water runs still
it is the shallow water which
makes the noise If Americans
are true to themselves and true to
their country and dusiie for their
president ono whoto patriotism is
unquestioned whose ability is un-
surpassed then let them elect the
Democratic nominee

Indorsement of Hon J M
For State Senator
At a mass meeting of the citi-
zens of Morris county held at the
Court House on the 15th day ol
August 1904 the following reso
Unions were offered and paesed
We the citizens of Morris coun-
ty Texas in mass meeting assem-
bled receiyo with much regret the
sadnewBofthe doath of our es-
teemed Senator the Hon J It
Wilson of Bowio county and ex-
tend to his family and many
friends our deepest sympathy
At our last election Senator Wil
ton wa3 choBen to represent the
First District in tho upper house
of our State legislature and in
casting lots to determine who of
the Senators electod should serve
the long term Mr Wilson was
ono ot the fortunate ones and drew
a long or four years term and now
as his death leaves a vacancy in
this office we the citizens of Mor-
ris countv present to the District
the Hon J M Terrell of this
county to fill the unexpired term
Ho is a man of high moral char-
acter and sterling ability nn able
lawyer and trustworthy citizen
having served us four years as
County Attorney and at each elec-
tion therefor he defeated his oppo-
nents by the largest majorities of
any man that ever made a race for
an office in this county Ho is
well qualified for the position has
been a lifelong Democrat and
stands upon a Democratic platform
both state and national
Morris county has been in the
Senatorial District with Bowie
Ch8S and Marion counties for twen-
ty four years and during this time
has hud the privilege of furnishing
n Senator for ono term only and
Bowie and Cass have had the
plensuro of filling this important
position three times each and
Marion one time since Morris
county has enjoyed this privilege
And now trusting in the justice
of Democracy and having present-
ed to the District a man in every
respect fit and qualified for this
place we respectfully ask the Dis-
trict to support him
