The Bartlett Little Lassies
overpowered St. Mary's of
Taylor 38-14 in a basketball
game at Taylor last Monday
to open the season for the
local girls.
St Mary's had previously
been unbeaten in two starts.
Laura Zander with 8 points
and Jennifer Hill with 6
points topped Bartlett
scoring.
Coach Hick Ingram was
pleased with the victory and
stated the "girls did a super
job"
Also scoring for Bartlett
were Karen Kneten with 4
Lana Ford with 4 Kim
Marshall with 2 Rachel
Cortez with 2 Kathy Gadison
with 2 Karen Sartor with 2
Regina Collins with 2 and
Kathleen Crathers with 2.
The Little Lassies had a
close 8-6 edge by the end of
the first period but dropped
in 10 points the second
quarter while allowing St
Mary's only 1 point to post an
18-7 halftime margin.
Both the 7th and 8th grade
teams are scheduled to play
next Monday when Bartlett
hosts Liberty Hill.
Starting time will be 4:30
PM.
The Bartlett Lassies will
play in the Florence Tour-
i nament this week then open
district play against Thrall In
Bartlett next Tuesday Dece-
mber 7.
The Lassies will Lometa at
12:30 PM Thursday in the
opening round of the Flo-
rence Tourney. Other first
round games pit Liberty Hill
against Rogers at 9:30 AM
Thursday Jarrell against
Huttoat 3:30 PM Thursday
and Granger against Flo-
rence at 6:30 PM Thursday.
The Liberty Hill-Rogers
winner will play the Bartlett-
Lometa winner at 3:30 PM
Friday. Losers meet at 9:30

In the other bracket the
Jarrcll-Hutto winner meets
the Granger-Florence winner

meet at 12:30 PM Friday.
Championship game will
be played at 6:30 PM

double digits to lead the
Bartlett Bullpups to a season
opening 45-15 victory over St.
Mary's of Taylor.
Luna had 15 points Blane
12 and Spruiell 10. Others
scoring were Travis Jackson
6 and Raymond Garza 2.
Bartlett took a 10-0 lead by
the end of the first quarter
and had increased that to a
23-5 lead by nalftime.
Next Monday December 6
Bartlett will host Liberty Hill
with girls action slated to
start at 4:30 PM.
Opening the season with a
74-57 romp over Lago Vista
the Bartlett Bulldogs have
jumped right into the thick of
basketball action with action
scheduled in the Florence
Tournament this week and
district play opening against
Texas School for the Deaf on
December 16
Greg Turner and Robert
Williams led scoring against
Lago Vista with 2G points and
21 points respectively
Sammy Williams led re-
bounds with 10 followed by
Greg Turner with 9
Also scoring for Bartlett
were Michael Smith with 12
points Sammy Williams with
9 Leon Powell with 4 and
Tony Johnson with 2
Coach Franklin Jones was
pleased with the win but felt
his team made too many
mistakes which he hopes to
iron out In the games ahead
Bartlett controlled the
boards taking 31 rebounds
compared to 18 for Lago
Vista.
The Bulldogs completed 32
of 57 field goals for a 5G
percent compeltlon ratio.
If the Bulldogs can get by
the minor problems. Coach
Jones predicts his team " will
be pretty sally this year".
Jones praised the effort of
Handy Hafay and Sammy
Williams and Lonnic
Crathers in the first game of
the season.
Jones is predicting Thorn-
dale and possibly Texas
School for the Deaf will
provide the main opposition
for the Bulldogs as they
attempt to defend district
and bi-district titles this
year
Bartlett plays Lometa in
the opening round of the
Florence Tournament with
the game scheduled for 2:00

City Championship for the
second year. They finished
their season with ll wins and

Bulldogs The Rebels came
back in the playoffs to beat
