Vessie (Tidwell) Davis: Mrs. Vessie Davis, widow of the late T. E. Davis of Celina died at her
home here Friday, July 17, 1959, at 9:05 a.m. after a long illness. She was 75. Mrs. Davis was born April
16, 1884 at Warren, Arkansas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Tidwell. Her husband, T. E.
Davis died here April 26 last. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Irving Wilson of Celina, Texas; two sons,
Earl D. Davis of LaPorte, Texas and James G. Davis of Santa Paula, California; 10 grandchildren and
7great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Celina at 3:30 p.m.
Sunday with Rev. J. T. Gillum officiating assisted by Rev. Travis Holland. Burial followed in Cottage
Hill Cemetery directed by Helms Funeral Home. Mrs. Davis grandsons were pallbearers. (The Celina

W. J. Davis: Funeral services were at the First Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. for W. J. Davis,
85, who died at his home Friday, January 24, 1958, at 5 a.m. following an illness for more than two
years. Rev. Edward R. Seanor of Mesquite, Texas a former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Celina
officiated assisted by Rev. Travis Holland, pastor of the church. Burial was in Oakhill Cemetery of
Whitewright, Texas directed by Helms Funeral Home of Celina, Texas. Pallbearers were Don Loftice
and Bobby Willard of Celina, Texas, Frank Benton of Ft. Worth, Texas, Morris Oliver of Whitewright,
Texas, Paul Oliver of Tioga, Texas, Joseph Mitchell of Dallas, Texas, Dean Wilson of Whitewright,
Texas and Hamlet C. McClellen of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Davis was born September 12, 1872 in
Chattanooga, Tennessee, a son of the late John William and Mary Davis. He came to Texas in 1895
settling in Whitewright, Texas. He and Miss Dirilla Oliver were married in Whitewright January 21,
1900. He was a farmer for a number of years and was a grocer in Dorchester, Gunter and Southmayd in
Grayson County, Texas. He lived in Dallas for a time prior to moving to Celina, Texas about three years
ago where he had since lived. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J. C. Loftice of Celina, Texas and Mrs. W. D. Williams of
Whitewright, Texas; two sons, C. W. Davis and R. L. Davis both of Dallas, Texas. (The Celina Record,

Hays Dickerson: Hays Dickerson, well known Celina, Texas colored man suffered a heart attack
Monday while he was feeding some hogs he owned and died soon after. He was about 65 and was a
member of the Methodist Church. Funeral is set for Saturday at the St. Phillips Baptist Church of Celina.
Survivors include a wife and several children. (The Celina Record, Celina, Texas, Thursday, June 27,
1957 p. 1) Hays Dickerson was born circa 1892 and died June 24, 1957 in Celina, Collin County, Texas.
He was buried in Community Cemetery north of Celina, Texas, located south of CR944 near Seitz Lake.
Annie Amy (Nichol) Dobie: Mrs. Thomas B. Dobie died at 2 p.m. Friday in the Collin Memorial
Hospital in McKinney, Texas on November 27, 1959, following complication that arose after a fall on
November 20, 1959 in which she fractured a leg. Mrs. Dobie whose home had been in Celina, Texas for
a number of years was born April 21, 1883 in Scotland and came to Texas with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Gideon Nichol when she was a child. She married her late husband Thomas B. Dobie August 5,
1903. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian
Church at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Alvin Rue officiating. Burial was in Celina Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Carl Perry, Lee Rucker, Willie Willard, Don Glendenning, Donnie Howell and Keister Snodgrass.PAGE 116
