Lions clinch 2nd place in district

nated the A 'lit ton i ulis Friday
night at Dublin in a defensive
struggle in a game the Lions
had to have to clinch a play-off
spot. That wm by the score of
56-37 gave the Lions a second
place finish in District UIAA
and will have them lacing
Coleman again this year, proba-
bly in Eastland on Feb. 23 or
24.
It was the last home game of
the year with the Lions on the
road for the regular season
finale against district leading
and undefeated Craw ford.
Clifton had been a big worry
for the Lions as they had man-
aged only a one point win in the
first meeting of the two teams.
This game started that way and
was tight until (he fourth quarter
when a strong bench just wore
Clifton dow n.
After the first quarter, it was
17-13 Dublin and the half ended
with Dublin having a 23-Id
edge. The third quarter ended
with the Lions leading by three
points. 28-25. but in the fourth,
the Lions scored 27 too only 12
for Clifton to ice thy* contest.
Dwayne Joslin scored IS to
lead the Lions while Nathan
Mellon added It). Ted DeVries
and Brad Black chipped in nine
each.
The Dublin JV "A" also
dominated Clifton as they won
61-37. leading all the way with
Ryan Hammer dropping in I7.

The Lions .IV "B" won 45 2D
with Nigel (ion/ales scoring 16.

Crawford wins over 3 Dublin teams
Crawford’s Pirates made the
Lions walk the plank Tuesday
night at three Lion teams came
up empty on the road.
The Crawford varsity went
undefeated in district as they
downed the Lions 50-44.
Jeremy Fritscher led scoring lor
the Lions With 1.3 while Ted
DeVries had 12 and Dwayne
Joslin. 0.
The Lion JV "A" team lost
47-42 with Mauro Marque/
scoring 10. Sam Means 10.
Jarred Cireenway. 8 and Ryan
I lammer and James Johnson, six
each.
The Lion JV "A" came in
second in district behind llico.
The season record was 18-8.
The JV "B" which came in
second behind Crawford with a
season record of 15-10. lost to
Crawford 49-31 with Chris
Ciujardo scoring 10. Jameson
I'eat scoring 8 and Nigel
(ion/ales. 7.
Lady Lions send Ranger
Bulldogs packing

The Lady Lions Softball sea-
son is off to a good start. DHS
tromped the Ranger Lady
Bulldogs Tuesday 22-15.
Brittany Templeton stepped
up as pitcher as Christina Noel
was out due to sickness. Noel
has been the leading pitcher for
the past three years. Templeton
did a great job and had very few
walks for the game. Another
starter from Iasi season, catcher
Haley Hoffman, was also out
due to sickness. freshman
Nichole James filled her gear
and was a powerhouse at the
plate.
DHS was down 3-6 in the
second inning. James hit a dou-
ble driving home Sara Young
and Keedra Galian to gel
Dublin closer. Ashley Elliot hit
a strong drive down the middle,
allowing James and Ryan l.isso
to score and take the lead over
the Lady Dogs 7-6 before the
beginning of the third inning.
Ranger began to rally and
scored four runs at bat leaving
Dublin behind again Emily
Button’s hard hit allowed one
runner to come home, while
Lori Montoya made her way to
the plate. Montoya infield fly
was dropped and pulled l.isso
home to get Dublin back within
two. Montoya's speed helped
with an overthrow at the plate.
Montoya stole home, and put
Templeton on third. Lauren
Pate sacrificed going to first and
allowed lemplelon to tie the
game 11-I I going into the fifth
inning.
The l.adv Lions only allowed
two runs to be scored in the fifth
before getting up to bat. Gailan
drove in Young to tie again. 13
13. Montoya's strong hit to the
outfield brought Gailan home to
take the lead once again,
l emplelon stepped to the plate
with one out on the board had a
strong hit to middle field and
brought l.isso home and pul
Montoya on third. Montoya.
for the second time, stole home
and put Dublin ahead by three.
With two outs. Pate hit a low
drive between short and third to
bring Templeton home, giving
DHS the edge they needed, with
Dublin leading 17 13 going into
the sixth inning.
Dublin again allowed only
two runs to Ranger in the sixth.
The Lady Lions had confi-
dence while at bat and went on
a scoring streak. Vanessa
Whisenanl stole home to pull
Dublin ahead by three. Gailan
hit a low drive between first and
second to bring Young across
the plate and added one more
run to the board, l emplelon put
muscle behind the bat and
added two more RBI's to her
stats by( bringing in l.isso and
Montoya with two outs on the
board. Templeton stole home
to end the game w ith Dublin on
lop '22-15.1
Dublin will face the Lady
Dogs again Friday at their home
field.
