CHS musicians qualify for State
A large group of CHS musi-
cians competed in the UIL Region
1 Instrumental Solo and Ensem-
ble Contests held last Saturday at
WTSU in Canyon.
Six individuals and three en-
sembles qualified for State com-
petition to be held Saturday, May
25, in Austin.
To qualify for State the musi-
cians must perform a Class 1 se-
lection, make a 1 rating and play
from memory.
The qualifying soloists are Jen-
nifer Blasingame, cornet; Jason
Christensen, keyboard/percus-
sion; Kathryn Knight, French
horn, Kami Minick, flute; Jason

driguez; a flute quartet of Kami
Minick, Lindsay Ricketts, Jaria
Christensen and Musetta Carver,
and a brass sextet of Angela
Parks, Jennifer Blasingame,
Kathryn Knight, Josh Wilson,
Scott Loworn and Matt Jackson.
Angela Parks, cornet and
Jamie Price, tuba, competed with
Class 1 solos and earned 1 ratings,
but had not memorized their mu-
sic; Jenny Kline, cornet and Can-
non Tubb 1-1; Danielle Guidry,
Clarinet and Shannon Lovato,
flute, 2-1; Claudia Hernandez,
flute, 2-2 amd Amanda Hender-
son, tenor sax, 3-1 also placed.
Others competing, but not
qualifying were Musetta Carver
and Jaria Christensen, flutes;
Alicia Duena, alto sax; Angie God-
den, clarinet; Lisa Jahnel, clari-
net; Kelisa Moore, flute; Ammie
Murray, French horn;
Also a clarinet choir, a trumpet
quartet, a French horn quartet,
two saxaphone quartets and a
trombone quartet.
CHS Stage Band competes at OSU Friday
The Canadian High School
Stage Band will be one of sixteen
bands participating in.the 26th an-
nual Southwestern Oklahoma
State University Jazz Festival in
Weatherford on Friday (tomor-
row).
Members of the CHS Stage
Band are Brooke McQuiddy,
Amanda Henderson and Kelisa
Moore on alto sax; Alicia Duenes
and Danielle Guidry on tenor sax;
B.J. Chaffin and Elsa Martinez,
baritone sax; Josh Wilson, Jerod
Rankin, Jason Price,trombone;
Angela Parks, Cannon Tubb,
Jamie Price and Jennifer Blasin-
game on trumpet; Jaria Christen-
sen on piano, Jason Christensen
on drums and Kathryn Knight and
Lindsay Ricketts on bass. Jen-
nifer Williston is the band direc-
tor.
The band will perform
“Maputo”, “Unforgettable”, and
“In the Closet”.
The Canadian Band will com-
pete in class 2 AA at Weatherford.
They are scheduled to perform at
3 o’clock in the afternoon.
They will attend a jazz festival
concert that evpning which will
feature Dan Haerle, Ed Soph,
Fred Hamilton, Tom Williams and
Delores Williams of the SWOSU
Jazz Ensemble.
There will also be a concert at
1 p.m. General admission for the 1
p.m. concert is $6 and for the eve-
ning concert, $10. For both con-
certs, tickets are available at $3
for student groups of 10 or more.
