The incredibly perfect
weather for the week
recreation. Mr. and Mrs.
Bradley Bingham, with
8-month old adorable Ka-
ty were guests in the
penthouse for the long
weekend to celebrate
Mrs. Bingham’s birth-
day. Bingham is with the
firm of Whittington, Pfei-
ffer, and Vacek, and their
home is in Houston.
We were pleased and
honored to have Jane
Abbott, Concert Pianist
and her mother with us
for two nights. Miss
Abbott is from Waco and
teaches music at Baylor
University. She was in
concert Saturday night in
our Fine Arts Center, and
we feel sure that those
who attended were treat-
ed to a rare performance
at the piano.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Brown spent a long week
end at the Luther, and
they hail from San Mar-
cos.
William and Cherie
Dougher were an attrac-
tive couple from Houston
for a night. Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Childress of Temple
returned home after a
week in the Courts. They
took with them a great
catch of crabs for their
enjoyment.
Tfv shugart men from
Palestine were down for a
fishing trip, and were
quite successful. One of
our lovely ladies from
Temple, Libbie Christi-
an, widow of our beloved
Dr. Christian, departed
for home after a week
with us. The Greaters
from Temple, and the
Meyers from Dallas re-
turned home, taking with
them an ice chest filled
with succulent crab meat
and shrimp.
Gary and Terri Trebbe
of Austin were weekend
guests with a most unus-
ual and fascinating hob-
by, the flying of a high
performance kite, which
to novices of kite-flying is
five kites in a row,
controlled with two lines
that can be made to soar,
dive, glide quietly or
with a swishing sound
can almost touch the
ground, and in a second
or less can be flying
gracefully about 40 feet
in the air. It is a spectacle
that old and young would
enjoy, and be completely
captivated by it. In the
capable and agile hands
of Gary and Terri, it was
quite a show. The kites
were very colorful and
made of nylon to endure
the speed with which
they split the atmos-
phere.
Our sailboat enthusia-
sts and sailors extra-
ordinaire, Mary and
George Sculiey, and Nick
and Paula Greenhaw, all
of Houston, were down
for the weekend and
spent most of fneir time
sailing in the blue sky,

The public is invited to buy goodies & gifts
brisk breezes weather.
They were headed for
New Braunfels for a
regatta being held there
and stopped for coffee in
Columbus. They swear
that when they got in
their car to leave, that the
car saw a sign that said
"71 to Palacios" and it
turned and headed for
the coast, and you know,
1 believe it! Smart car.
We had a party in the
game room Saturday
night to celebrate the
birthday of Eleanor Mill-
er, a former resident and
a dear friend. There was
a beautifully decorated
cake, ice cream and
enough champagne to
give a toast to this lovely
lady. Besides the honor-
ee, those present were:
Mike Miller, Dan and
Clara Brock, Gwen and
Gene North, Pete and
Cecile Fisher, Roxanne
and Hugh Jones with our
beautiful great-grand-
daughters, Tabitha and
Tanya, and Rosannete
Luther down from Hous-
ton for the weekend
where she is employed at
the Park Plaza Pharmacy.
Joining us later after an
afternoon's sail, for cake
and conversation, were
Mary and George Sculiey!
and Paula and Nick
Greenhaw. The game
room was decorated with
helium-filled balloons
and there was a wheel
chair with balloons and
ribbons for the old???
birthday girl, which she
accepted graciously. It
was a fun night, and
enjoyed by everyone in-
cluding the host and
hostess, Elsie and Char-
les Luther.
