County Historical Commission and Course Coordinator for the
Dallas PBS station community outreach program.
In attendance were fifteen adults ranging from experienced
genealogists to novice. Beginning with registration at 9:00 am,
the workshop proceeded through four sessions dealing with the
following topics: "Oh Where is Thy Ancestor; How and Where
can I find Thee?" "News Flash! What's in this Edition; Secular,
Denominational, Ethnic & Trade Newspapers" "Cemetery
Searching & Answers from the Tombstone" and "Who, What,
Where & When: Identifying People, Places and Photographs."
Each session lasted about an hour and a half with a lunch
break. The workshop concluded at 5:00 pm.The Second Annual Burress Chair of Genealogy and Ameri-
can History Genealogy Workshop is scheduled for Saturday,
March 1, 2003.
The third Burress Distinguished Lecturer featuring Dr. Janet
Schmelzer (Ph.D. TCU), a professor of history at Tarleton
State University, will be Thursday, October 14, 2002 and will
encompass American Colonial history. We plan on her speak-
ing to the American Colonial history advanced class and a U.S.
survey before her formal presentation at 11:00 at the Adams
Street Community Center.
The fourth Burress Distinguished Lecturer will speak on
FDR and the New Deal in the spring of 2003.2
