THE proprietor of this iown-site often the samo to a
discrimin iting public with the full conviction of its
natural advantages and superiority of location in a com-
mercial as well as geographical point of viow. This town
was laid out at an early date in the settlement of the coun-
try, but owing to the death of the original proprietor and
the delay consequent upon selling the estate, togeliier
with 'he commotions nnd disturbances of the country du-
ring the late revolution, the present proprietor has not
thought fit heretofore to offer thojsame to the public, be-
ing fully confident that its superiority of location would
atall times be a guarantccfor its final success. This place
is situated on the west bank of the Brazos river, in the
limber about'four-huailrod yards- from the prairie," on'a
hich and beautiful bluftbank, at all times cntuclv above
the highest rise ot the river c-er Known, and extending.
thus, perfectly free from inundation, for two miles upon
the river; at the extreme head oi tide water and 3team
boat navigation at the Iowcit stage of the river 00 miles
from the Gulf. This town is in the midst of the Live O.ik
recion of Texas, and surrounded with the most beautiful'
groves of that beautiful timber of any point or Section" of
the country. 1 ho prairie behind it opens to the Han Ber-
nard on the west to the country above and io the Gulf
giving, at all times, nn almost un imited prospect over one
of the most beautiful and luxuriant prairies of verdant
bloom that the eve ever beheld. Monticcllo is at all sea
sons fan n ca by an unbroken sea breeze, producing unin-
terrupted health; the finest of water can be here obtain-
ed in the greatest abundance by digging, as it is well
known that in this region springs do not abound, owing to
the unbroken level of the country. On Cow Creek
near this place is the finest of building timber in large
quantities. This place is in the richest farming lands in
Tcas, and surrounded with firms in the highest state of
improvement, and peopled with an industrious and enter
prising population where Hie merchant can hnd roady
sale for his goods and the mechanic for his wares. It is
at present even the centre of a most flourishing and rich,
as well ns populous section ol llns bcniititul rounlrv. Its
geographical location is about cqui-dislant between Velas
co amJ San rclipe between Matagorda and iouston
and from Galveston to Columbus; by passing through
this pi.ice, from ctheir Mat.igorda or Columbia to the cap
ital, the dis'.ancc is shorter by 1U miles than anv other
route. The proprietor intends immcdiatclv erecting a saw
mill, for the benefit of the place, near the" town. To mer
chant", mechanics, and professional men, who tvll lmmc-
dia'.clv improve the same, the price of lots will be made
an o'.'jcct worthy their particular attention. The river is
navigiblc for all vessels that can cross the bar to this
pot:i.. at all seasons, and the immense quantities of the
finet live oak at this place for ship and boat building, to-
getr.cr with a spendid situation lor a ship yard near, is
well worth the immediate attention of ship builders. A
single glance at the map will show this point to be the na
tural crossing of a rail road already in contemplation from
San Antonio de Bexar to Galveston. The proprietor on
ly solicits ot capitalists nnd business men an cxamnation
of the site, and its natural advantages to them must be ob
vious. He is well nware that at all points of Texas towns
upon paper are springing up like mushrooms, but time a-
lone can test their claims to being points of importance.
nnd to that test he most cheerfully .submits the fate of
Mon'iccllo, fully confident that Nature has said, pointing
to th spot, "There letaproudtotcn arise!"
Iho proprietor has, laid oftlOOO acres ofland, including
the town site and out lots, which he proposes to dispose of
in shares, it being part ol two leagues ol land granted to
TliMinas Ais'nurv bvtlie Mexican Government in 1824,
and one of the first selections.

S PleubdiilH situated on the Jel't bank ot Buffalo.
Bayou, directly opposite the town of Harrisburg, nnd
at, what has heretofore, been termed the head of Naviga-
tion. It is only five miles from the City of Houston, ihe
present scat of gov eminent, and possesses advantages, far
superior to any other point on the Bay oa, as a commercial
location; the planters and fanners of the uppor country,
on account of the superiority of the roads, preferring to
carry their produce to this place for transportation, and
of course taking their supplies from hence, provided ihov
could b'e furnished with them. The largest steamboats
or other vessels crossing the bars below this point, may
arrive here and discharge their cargoes without hejeafi
impediment from the narrowness Tif the stream, or from
any other obstacle whatever, An abundance of timber
such as pine, cypress, codar. oak, &c, &.., immediately
'surrounds the place, suitable fur building, and it is con
templated by the proprietors (provided they meet with
sufficient encouragement) shortly to erect u saw and grist
mill; a brick yard will uUo be established, which will
furnish materials for building cheaper than can be afford-
ed any whore els'c in the country. The rail road from tha
Brazo3 to the city of Houston will be extended to this
place, or rather't- the town of Harrisburg opposite; and
for the convenience of those who w ish to av ail themselves
of the market of both places, a draw-bridge connecting
the two towns will be constructed so soon as the saw
mill is put in" operation. But, lajitig all this big talk
aside, let those who wish to enjoy health, accumulate
wealth and live comfortably, come and examine for them-
selves; and if they are not pleased with thc"plucc, nnd
