AN ORDINANCE
Concerning Arrests.
Be it ordained by the City Council of
the city ot Brenliaiu,
f"KC. 1. That it sliull he the duty of
the Marshal and policemen to arrest all
violators of the public peace, and of
the ordinances of the city, upon proper
warrants issued by the Mayor upon
complaint made before him.
Skc. 2; It sliull also be the duty of
the Marshal and policeilien of the city
to arrest without warrant all persons
iound iu suspicious places, under cir-
ctimjiances which reasonably show
thatsui-h persons have been guilty ot*
wine lelony or breach ol the peace; or
threaten to commit or are about to
commit some offence against the ordi-
nances ot ihe city, or the laws ol the
-tale.
Skc 3. Whereas the Marshal or any
policeman shall make an arrest, tbi^
person arrested shall beconfinftl in tlm
city prison, unless he shall give bail
for his appealance before tbe Mayor at
a time stated, to answer au<rh charge
as is, or may be preferred against him
for the offence for which he was arrest-
ed, naming it which said bail shall he
approved by the Marshal, previded that
in case of arrests for oftences exclusive-,
ly W'thin the jurisdiction of the State
courts, such person shall beyfumed

Washington comity.
