Panhandle Writer
Praises Timmons
LawMrking Record
By Bsscom N Timmons
Washington Correspondent
former Amarillo editor
To those of my friends in the
Eighteenth Congressional District
who have communicated with me
regarding the special election of
May 61 have replied that I hope
theywill give their support to ray
nephew State Representative J
Blake Timmons
In 1891 I be-
came a resident
of the Texas
Panhandle
when my par-
ents moved to
Washburn
Armstrong
County and al-
though my work
as a writer has
called me to all
parts of the NaJ
tlon I have re
J Blake Timmons W d al-
ways expect to
retain my legal residence in the
Panhandle Congressional District I
am therefore no outsider
Some years ago at the end of his
distinguished public career In
Washington which bad lasted for a
usrter of the life of the Republic
ormer Vice President John H
Gamer said
The best training for a mem-
ber of Congress is In his Stste
legislature lie lesms Ids District
end his stste there lie teams
the legislstlve prpcess snd how to
work with other men 1 lsld the
foundstion for my Congressional
careet In the legislature of
Texas
From this training school also
came Senator Tom Connolly and
Speaker Sam Raybum of Texas
Representative J Blake Timmons
33 has ably served this District
four years in the Texas legislature
exactly the apprenticeship served
there by John Nance Garner
It has become a custom of the
people of Northwest Texas to
chooe an eljle young man to rep-
resent them In Congress and to
keep him there thus reaping the
benefit of his Increasing experience
and the friendship and respect he
has gained from Ms Congressional
colleagues
In the last S3
years this Con-
gressional Dis-
trict has ha d
three Represent
tatlves in Con-
gress John II
Stephens who
served 20 years
Marvin Jones
who served 24
years and Eu-
gene Worley
who served 10
years It has Bsscom Timmons
been
my
lege to enjoy the friendship of all
these able men I believe that J
Blake Timmons would make a
worthy successor to them
He is young industrious able
and sound He has been an up-
right and forthright public servant
In these critical times J Blake
Timmons will serve Ids country and
his Panhandle District well
