* No advanced standing tests, such as CLEP, will Academic Program
be allowed under this program.
NOTE: There will be no dormitory facilities for High
School Seniors or High School Juniors involved in
either of the above programs.
REPEATED COURSES: Any course taken at Howard Payne may be
repeated. This is recommended if a student receives
a low grade in a course. When a course is repeated,
the last grade is the one that is counted regardless
of whether it is higher or lower than the
earlier grade.
MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM CLASS LOAD
A semester hour represents one hour of classroom
work per week per semester. The normal student
load is sixteen (16) semester hours. A full-time student
is one registered for 12 or more semester hours.
After the first semester a student who has a grade
point average of 3.0 (B) or better may take over 18
hours if he desires and receives written approval of
the Academic Dean. This approval must be presented
to the Admissions and Records Office. Students
working more than 10 hours per week should
not attempt to carry a regular load (16 hours).
PASS-FAIL GRADING OPTION
The Pass-Fail grading option as used at Howard
Payne College is intended to encourage the student
to broaden his education by taking courses for enrichment
without undue concern for a grade and its
effect on his overall grade point average. This option
is permitted for any elective, except P.E. activities,
taken during the junior and/or senior years, provided
the student has a 2.5 average.
To select the Pass-Fail option, the student must submit
a form, signed by the student and his faculty adviser,
stating that he wishes this option in lieu of a
letter grade. This form must be presented to the Admissions
and Records Office prior to registration and
the option cannot be changed after registration.
A course taken as a Pass-Fail option shall have no
effect upon the grade point average, whether passed
or failed. 45
