Student Affairs The above standards apply to all students as long as they are enrolled
in Howard Payne, both on and off campus. The authority of
the University is exercised over all student groups or organizations
bearing the name of the University or any student enterprises to the
extent necessary to safeguard the good name and well-being of Howard
Payne University and its students and faculty. Each student is expected
to conduct himself in such a manner as to uphold, not detract from,
the good name of Howard Payne University.
CHAPEL AND ASSEMBLY ATTENDANCE
CHAPEL ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED OF STUDENTS
ATTENDING HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY
A required chapel service or assembly is held on Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday in order that students may come to understand something of
the experience of worship, which is the dynamics for religious living, and
which provides instruction and inspiration through programs on a
variety of themes. Those who sincerely participate may come to
appreciate the wide-range concerns of the Christian faith in intellectual,
social, political and artistic ideas and issues involved in everyday
experience.
Since chapel is intended to be a part of the educational process on
our campus, a student may earn one grade point each semester if he
has no more than eleven chapel absences during the semester. Absences
for any purpose must be counted, including those for official
activities or illness. Absences preceding or following holidays will be
counted as two absences.
With the twelfth absence three grade points will be deducted from
the students total grade points at the end of the semester. No additional
grade points will be deducted for absences beyond the twelfth.
RESIDENCE HALLS
When you enroll as a student at Howard Payne University, you become
a citizen of a community that is different from any in which you
have previously lived. The Residence Halls are a significant part of this
academic community and have been developed, staffed, and programmed
to provide an environment which will enrich your life-academically,
culturally, and socially.
The Board of Trustees has committed the University to maintaining
full occupancy of all college-owned residences. THEREFORE, ALL
UNMARRIED, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED
TO LIVE IN STUDENT HOUSING FACILITIES PROVIDED BY
THE UNIVERSITY AS LONG AS THERE ARE VACANCIES.
STUDENTS WHO CANNOT BE ACCOMMODATED IN A RESIDENCE
HALL AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION WILL BE
PLACED ON A WAITING LIST AND BE REQUESTED TO MOVE
INTO A RESIDENCE HALL AS SPACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.
