6 General Information
Graduate School
The Graduate School of Abilene Christian University was
established in 1953 and now enrolls nearly 700 students. It
provides graduate study for students who plan to continue
work toward advanced degrees and professional
preparation for students with specific professional and
career objectives. ACU offers 32 graduate programs
including Master of Arts degrees in literature, creative
writing, history, theatre, human communication,
journalism and mass communication, and New Testament;
Master of Science degrees in psychology (clinical,
counseling and school), gerontology, family studies, and
Biblical and related studies; Master of Education degrees
for the educational diagnostician, the reading specialist, the
elementary school teacher, the secondary school teacher,
the school counselor, and the school superintendent; and
degrees in the Master of Business Administration, the
Master of Social Services Administration, the Master of
Public Administration, the Master of Marriage and Family
Therapy, the Master of Divinity, and the Doctor of
Ministry. Graduate courses are also available in the
supporting fields (see the Graduate Catalog for details on
courses offered as well as for the above degrees).

Abilene Christian University provides a year-round
educational program. In addition to the fall and spring
semesters, there are Maymester and two summer terms
offering courses ranging in length from short courses to six
weeks. These sessions offer a wide range of classes at
undergraduate and graduate levels, including more than 60
classes which meet university and degree core requirements
for bachelor's degrees. Many junior scholars take
advantage of summer school opportunities for academic
advancement between their junior and senior years of
high school.
The emphasis during summer school is on flexibility and
innovation. Many special workshops, seminars, and short
courses are offered. Opportunities for combining study and
travel (such as to Mexico, Europe, and the Bible lands) are
frequently available. Summer schedules or additional
