10 Admission Requirements
Veterans should submit evidence of satisfactory completion
of Service Schools to the Registrar's Office in order that a
determination can be made as to whether college credit can
be awarded.
Non-Degree Admission
Students who want to take courses for academic credit but
are not seeking a degree from ACU may be admitted on a
semester-by-semester basis as non-degree students. This
provision applies, for example, to students enrolled in
another college, students who already have a degree but
want to take additional undergraduate courses, qualified
high school students (Junior Scholars in a summer term),
and summer visiting students. A special application form
is available for these students.
During the summer, Abilene Christian University follows a
policy of open admission for non-degree students. The
university assumes that these students know what courses
they want and are qualified to take, although they may, if
they wish, consult an adviser. Students from other colleges
are urged to confer with their own advisers before enrolling
at ACU.
Non-degree students who later decide to continue their
work at ACU must apply for admission to a degree
program following the regular procedures. The fact that
they have been admitted to non-degree status for one or
more semesters does not guarantee their admission to a
degree program at ACU.
Re-enrollment
Students who have not been enrolled in a degree program
at ACU for one or more long semesters must contact the
Registrar's Office (ACU Station, Box 7940, Abilene, Texas
79699-7940, 915-674-2235) and complete a re-enrollment
form. Former non-degree students must apply through the
Admissions Office.THE ADMISSION PROCESS
To be considered for admission to an undergraduate
degree program at ACU, a prospective student must see
that the Director of Admissions receives (1) a completed
application form, (2) a nonrefundable application fee,
(3) transcripts of previous academic work, (4) ACT or
SAT scores (not required of some transfer students, as
indicated above), and (5) two letters of reference.
To assure full consideration for admission, applicants
should submit these materials as early as possible. Decision
notification letters will be mailed to applicants on a rolling
basis. Applications may be considered for late admission
until the start of a semester, provided openings are still
available in requested programs.
1. Application
A formal application for admission is required of every
candidate. Applicants who do not have a Social Security
number should secure one before submitting an
application, since ACU uses these numbers as student
ID numbers.
2. Application Fee
Applications must be accompanied by a $25 fee. This is
not refundable unless admission is denied.
3. Transcripts
A. Freshman Applicants
For those who have not completed high school at
the time of application, a high school principal or
counselor should complete the Class Rank Form
contained in the application materials. After
graduation, the applicant must provide a complete
transcript showing both the date of graduation and
the class rank. It is the applicant's responsibility to
request the transcript.
Applicants who have already graduated from high
school must provide a complete transcript but
should disregard the Class Rank Form.
B. TransferApplicants
College transfers must submit an official transcript
from each college previously attended. A high
school transcript is also required.
4. ACT or SAT Scores
ACT or SAT scores must be submitted by all freshmen, and
by transfer applicants with 64 or fewer semester hours.
Those who have taken the ACT but have not requested
that scores be sent to ACU must contact ACT (Box 451,
Iowa City, Iowa 52243) and request that their scores be
sent to ACU, College Code 4050. SAT scores can be
requested by contacting the College Board, Achievement
Testing Program, Box 592, Princeton, New Jersey 08541.
ACU's SAT College Code is 6001.
