In its teaching function the faculty of the Graduate School presents the heritage of
the past and contributions of the present. Efforts in research are expended by both
faculty and students so as to create, conserve, and disseminate knowledge and artistic
production.
Administration
The Graduate Council and Graduate Faculty determine the policies of the
Graduate School, and those policies are administered by the Dean of the Graduate
School. Besides the Dean of the Graduate School, who serves as chairman, the
Graduate Council includes nine members of the Graduate Faculty. These members are
appointed by the President of ACU for three-year terms, with three new members
joining the Council each year.
The Graduate Faculty consists of all members of the University Faculty meeting
eligibility requirements. Graduate Faculty members are appointed by the President
upon recommendation of the Dean of the Graduate School and the Graduate Council.
Degrees Offered
ACU offers courses of study leading to the following degrees: Master of Arts
(MA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Education (MEd.), Master of Business
Administration (MBA), Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MM FT), Master of
Missiology (MMiss.), Master of Religious Education (MRE), and Master of Divinity
(MDiv.).
Major and Minor Programs
Programs of study include eight different degrees:
Master of Arts (MA) in: Bible (ancient church history, Biblical Greek, doctrinal
studies, missions, New Testament, Old Testament, restoration history, or
Biblical and related studies); Communication (drama, oral communication,
communication disorders, and mass communication); English; History; and
Psychology.
Master of Science (MS) in: Bible (ministry and evangelism, religious education,
missions, or Biblical and related studies); Biology (general biology, microbiology,
and wildlife biology); Chemistry; Education; Family studies;
Psychology; and in Management and Human Relations (an interdeparmental
program involving the departments of Business Administration,
Communication, and Psychology).
Master of Education (MEd) for the: elementary teacher, secondary teacher,
school supervisor, school counselor, educational diagnostician, and reading
specialist. Also available in the Education Department are two graduate
programs which qualify the candidate for administration certificates through
the Texas Education Agency (a 45-hour program for the school principal or
central office administrator, and a 60-hour program for the school
superintendent). Both programs include a Master of Education Degree.
Master of Business Administration (MBA). A 36-hour program in accounting or
general business.
Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT). A 60-hour program to
prepare for certification as a member of the American Association of
Marriage and Family Therapy.
Master of Missiology (MMiss). A 45-hour program in missions.4 Abilene Christian University Graduate School
