ACU Graduate Office. Enrollment on a tentative or probational basis may be
continued only with permission of the Graduate Dean. A student is expected to
demonstrate every effort to satisfy all admissions requirements prior to enrollment for
a second semester of graduate study. A graduate student will not be permitted to enroll
for more than two 16-week semesters while on tentative or probational status.
c. Exceptions and Explanations. Failure to comply with the minimum 2.6
undergraduate grade-point average may be compensated for by maintaining at least
3.0 grade-point average on the first 12 semester hours of graduate work at ACU.
Petitions for exceptions to the stated admission requirements, due to extenuating
circumstances, may be submitted to the Graduate Office for approval by the
departmental advisor, the Graduate Dean, and the Graduate Council.
Graduate credits earned prior to admission to a degree program may be used in
satisfying requirements of a degree program only with the consent of the departmental
advisor and the Graduate Dean.
A student must receive admission to a degree program and satisfy all candidacy
requirements at least one semester or two summer terms prior to the expected date of
graduation. (See section on "GENERAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS, Admission
to Candidacy.")
The ACU Graduate School, through action of the Graduate Dean, reserves the
right to refuse continued enrollment when the student is negligent in conforming to: (1)
admissions requirements; (2) student regulations; or (3) proper academic standards.
d. Permission to enroll for graduate credit may be granted to students who lack
not more than nine semester hours meeting the requirements for the bachelor's degree
but who satisfy other scholastic requirements for graduate study. Special request
forms for this purpose are available in the Graduate Office. Graduate courses taken
while a senior cannot be used as part of the student's bachelor's degree.
The granting of permission to enroll in graduate credit while a senior does not
imply admission to graduate study. For continued enrollment in graduate study, a
student must submit an application for admission to graduate study.
An application for admission submitted prior to completion of the bachelor's
degree should be accompanied by transcripts including all completed work and the
courses currently enrolled in. If the grade-point average and admissions test scores are
adequate, tentative admission will be granted subject to the completion of the
bachelor's degree.
e. Any student who does not maintain a 3.0 grade-point average will be placed on
scholastic probation. If during his next enrollment he fails to attain a 3.0 average, he
may not re-enroll without permission of the Graduate Dean and the Departmental
Advisor. Enrollment in a graduate program while on scholastic probation will not be
permitted for more than two successive 16-week semesters. A student who has accumulated
more than two grades of"C" in graduate courses cannot continue in a graduate
program.
f. An application will not be finally acted upon until all necessary credentials have
been assembled and evaluated. After an application has been acted upon, a letter of
acceptance or denial will be sent to the applicant. If he is admitted conditionally, the
conditions of admission will be specified.
g. A person reporting for registration as a graduate student without having filed
an application and other credentials for graduate status, may, uponpresentation of an
undergraduate transcript, be tentatively enrolled. The student should understand that
after the credentials have been examined, the institution reserves the right to deny him
graduate standing if his credentials do not satisfy admissions requirements.
h. Admission to graduate study does not imply admission to candidacy for the
master's degree. (Please refer to GENERAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS, Item 2).6 Abilene Christian University Graduate School
