in depth look at the technologies of print media and the studio procedures
related to them. Projects and readings dealing with typesetting,
printing, ink, paper, binding, die-cutting, embossing, mechanical construction,
graphic illustration, photographic processes, computer aided design,
general studio techniques, and craftsmanship. Course fee: $25.
ART 454 Information Design I (24-3), fall, spring. Organizing visual
information. Emphasis on vocabulary development and an objective understanding
of page composition through the exploration of semiotic and
information theory. Investigation of systems of order in ancient and
modern times. Course fee: $25. Prerequisite: ART 353.
ART 476 Information Design II (24-3), fall, spring. A continuation of
ART 554 resulting in portfolio quality work. Diagramming, charting, or
mapping abstract processes, signage, readability/legibility, attention/comprehension.
Selected readings and research in history, perception, or

ART 477 Persuasive Graphics (2-4-3), fall, spring. Advanced graphic
design projects. Retail identity graphics, packaging, advertising campaign,
editorial illustration, display design. Use of metaphor in visual

design studio with emphasis on portfolio completion through work in
