The Pickwicker is an annual publication, published by the Pickwickians,
a creative writers club of the campus.
Government
It is the ambition of the College to establish in students high
standards of conduct and the spirit of true helpfulness and genuine
refinement. The emphasis of control is placed upon individual responsibility.
The College endeavor s to surround students with an
atmosphere which fosters in them a sense of their own worthiness
and dignity. The students and teachers are bound together by mutual
interests. Discipline is parental in character.
General Regulations
The College expects all students to make class work the chief
factor in their programs. Each regular student is expected to pass
in at least nine hours of work each semester. A failure to do so may
result in dismissal. A student who represents the College in any
activity must be passing in at least nine hours of work.
High standards of moral conduct are also required. Profanity,
vulgarity, gambling, card playing, and alcoholic drinks are not
tolerated. Attending balls, card parties, pool rooms, or other places
of amusement that are calculated to interfere with studious habits
or good morals, are prohibited.
Dishonesty on the part of students is considered a matter of
serious discipline.
Hazing in all forms is prohibited.
The College believes that the use of tobacco in any form is injurious,
therefore, it proposes to discourage its use in every way that
is possible.
All boarding students are required to be in their rooms during
the evening study hours.
Non-resident students who marry without the knowledge and
consent of the college authorities automatically withdraw themselves
from school.
Any student may be asked to withdraw without having committed
a special offense provided in the judgement of the discipline
committee he is out of harmony with the interest of the school
and student life. Also such a student may be deprived of any privilege
that the College grants.
All accounts must be adjusted before a student is permitted
to take final examinations.
No boarding student is permitted to keep an automobile unless
he obtains written permission from the Dean.
Athletic Regulations
Since Abilene Christian College is a member of the Texas Conference,
the rules of that body are followed in all intercollegiate
contests.
All schedules of games and contests are made or approved by
the Faculty Committee on Athletics.21
