Courses of Instruction
Biology
A student who elects biology as a major subject may choose
as a minor subject either chemistry, mathematics, home economics,
education, or physical education.
In additiion to the work in the major and minor fields a
student must complete twelve hours of French or German, six
hours of chemistry or physics, and six hours of mathematics.
Women students may offer six hours of home economics in lieu of
the mathematics if home economics is not their minor subject.

301-Biological Science.
An introductory course in general biology. Emphasis on
practical elementary knowledge of trees, wild flowers, insects,
and bird and animal life of Texas. Designed for those
desiring to satisfy science requirements for elementary
certificates. Two lectures and four hours laboratory or field
work each week.
31.0-Botany
A general survey of the plant kingdom. Representative
structures and functions of seed plants. Two lectures and four
hours laboratory each week.
31 1-General Zoology.
Principles of zoology with a study of the types of invertebrates
through the crustacea. Two lectures and four hours
laboratory each week. Not credited until 312 is completed.
312-General Zoology.
A continuation of 311. Insects, the remainder of the invertebrates
and representative vertebrates are studied. Two lectures
and four hours laboratory each week.
32--Heredity and Genetics.
A general course in heredity, dealing with the principals
of inheritance in plants and animals. Prerequisites: 310 or 311,
312. Two lectures and four hours laboratory each week.
332-Economic Entomology.
An introduction to the insect life of this region. A study of
structure, classification, life history, and habits of insects
and of their economic importance. Prerequisites: 311, 312.
Two lectures and four hours laboratory each week.
340-Hygiene and Physiology.
Personal hygiene and beginning study of the human body.
Scientific health facts and their application to the daily
life and habits of the individual. Causes, means of transmission,
and means of prevention of contagious diseases.
Principles of immunization and study of deficiency diseases.
Two lectures and four hours laboratory each week.
