13. By May 10th of the year that the student expects to graduate he is required
to pass a formal and extensive examination covering the work of
his major subject These examinations are much more pretentious than
term examinations and should require three or more hours to write. These
examinations are given under the direction of the student's major pro.
fessor.
14. On entering college a freshman is required to take a searching examina.
tion covering the "Mechanics of English." If he makes a failing grade
he is required to take and pass a special course in English covering both
oral and written English Composition and English Grammar. This is English

15. Degrees are formally conferred at the June commencement and at the
close of the summer term in August.
16. All candidates for the B. A. degree who average nine grade points for
each three-hour course presented and who make at least 95 per cent on
the senior examination are graduated "with highest honors"; those candidates
averaging eight points for each three-hour course and who make
at least 92 per cent on their senior examination are graduated "with high
honors"; those candidates who make seven grade points for each threehour
course taken and who make a grade of at least 89 per cent on their
senior examination are graduated "with honors." These phrases are put
on their diplomas, public announcement is made at graduation time and
special reference is made of these graduates in the next catalog.

SENIOR PRIVILEGES
Students must apply for Senior privileges.
Any student who has been in residence one quarter and has credit for 144 hours of
college work is entitled to senior privileges, provided he made a B-Minus average on the
work of the last quarter and has proved by his good conduct and excellent spirit of cooperation
that he is worthy of this trust and confidence.
These privileges shall be the following: 1. Permission to go to town at any time during
