IV. DEPARTMENT OF HOME ECONOMICS.
DOMESTIC ART.
113.-Clothing. This course deals with the fundamentals of
plain and machine sewing, the operation and care of the machine
and attachments. It deals with the use of commercial patterns.
The students plan to make under garments, and a simple dress.
Lecture and recitation one hour, laboratory six hours per week.
123.-Clothing. A continuation of course 113.
133.-Clothing. A continuation of course 123.
213.-Clothing. This course establishes the fundamental
principles of dressmaking and gives practice in the drafting of
patterns, cutting, fitting and making of garments, and in purchasing
of appropriate material to be used in practical problems.
One hour per week, lecture, and six hours laboratory.
223.-Clothing. A continuation of course 213.
233.-Clothing. A continuation of course 223.
243.-Textiles. This course includes a study of the history
and development of textiles; a study of the different fibers and
their manufacture; and a study of fabrics and their economic use.
252.-Millinery. This course includes the making of bows,
flowers, and various other trimmings together with making and
covering of frames of different materials. Laboratory four hours
a week.
262.-Design. The general principles of design, color, line,
etc., as applied to costume are studied. Study of individual types
and appropriateness to the occasion. Laboratory four hours a
week.
272.-Interior Decoration-House Painting. A study of architectural
styles is made. Discussion and arrangement of floor
plans. Balance in the arrangement of furniture and harmony in
color, etc., in the draperies and furniture is studied. Laboratory
four hours a week.
DOMESTIC SCIENCE.
113.-Foods. This course includes the study of the production,
manufacture, composition, and nutritive value of foods;
the classification into food principles; the changes in processes
of digestion; the effect of heat on food; the preparation, cooking,__
